I have restored my PC to factory settings and upon reboot, "no signal" is displayed. The startup screen for Compaq appears with the optional function keys listed, ESC, F11-Restore, etc..., before turning to a black screen. I understand that it's caused by the monitor I'm using (Toshiba 24SL41OU: HDTV) because the PC works on a regular computer monitor. In essence, I have a solution but in case I am not able to access another monitor, is there a way to toggle the display directly from the Toshiba monitor? Note: I am able to use the function keys listed from startup to change settings. Resetting the TV does not work.

Well, if you have done all that and no result, then we are going to have to, pull out the "Big Guns" so to speak. Right you will have to get a Windows Vista Install DVD. Boot from this DVD, and try all of the "Repair" options, if they do not work, then you will simply have to re-install Vista from scratch. IE: Boot from DVD and select Install. go through and re-install Vista, unfortunately this will, remove all your old settings, however your files etc, will still remain intact, unless Vista demands you "Format" the drive, in this instance you will loose everything, lets hope it doesn't come to that. I have included a link below to guide you through.

You may have to use a friends PC, to do all this.. You can also download a copy of Vista too, and you are allowed to reinstall, as you already own a licensed version.

Hi,
I understand your frustration. Do you have a "recovery cd "(Operating system disc) ,which came along with your computer . if you have the same please, put the disc in the CD drive and restart the computer. you need to select boot from cd option and then follow the on screen instruction.
*you can get the "recovery cd"from your computer manufacturer.( call Dell customer care)
