I have an existing 3 wire honeywell room stat on a conventional ch system which has gone faulty. I have bought a honeywell DT200 to replace it but this looks like it only takes 2 wires. Can I use this stat as a replacement? If so how do I wire it and what do I do with the spare wire?

Hook up the Red wire to R on the t-stat and the White wire on the W just cut the wire flush with the insulation and leave it un hooked. If those are not the color get back with me. ken
Take the Red and go to R on t-stat. Then take the blue and hook it to W. Try to turn on furnace if it works good. If it don't disconnect the blue and hook up the yellow in it's place.

Unless the thermostat is faulty, the point where your 'stat clicks is your actual roomtemperature. If your 'stat doesn't 'call for heat' when set to 18 and your room ...
Possibles are: 1. Heating system not powerful enough to get temp to 21 C. How high does it get if you set it to 23 C? 2. Hysteresis in DT200 set too wide? Adjust it to 0.5 or 1 C and retry. 3. Calibration error (ie you're using an independant thermometer to read the actual temperature, whereas the DT200 "thinks" it has reached 21 C. Is there a symbol on the DT200 which corresponds to a 'call for heat'?

Hello davem1952,
The way you wire it will depend on how the other end of your three wires are wired into your heating system. This link http://www51.honeywell.com/pacific/common/documents/DT200_Specifications.pdf
shows the various methods for wiring it and take into account the type of setup you are dealing with. You'll need to find the wiring detail ( last page) that corresponds to your setup..
Hope this helps..
Reagrds,
Rick
