Motorola Talkabout Basic

Hey! I Think I have the same radios as you (Motorola Talkabout Basic). I figured out how to change the sub-channels: Press & Hold the monitor button, then wait for It to give you the frequency. Without releasing the monitor button, press the Push To Talk Button. It'll change the sub-channels. Now I have another problem: Everytime I press the Push To Talk Button, It'll change the channels. Anybody has a solution for this problem? Thanks!!! H2O.

I believe you do not need to hold the monitor button when changing channels
Push the talk button till you have the channel you want then push monitor button to accept
Hope this works

How do I unlock a Motorola talkabout

Press and hold the Menu button (the center section with the + and - buttons to the sides) until you hear a beep (3 seconds or so). After that, when you press and release the Menu button, the Channel number should flash indicating that you can change the channel. In the future, you can toggle the keypad lock by pressing and holding the Menu button.

You can find more information on the Keypad Lock feature in the manual. See page 14 and page 21. The manual is available from ManualsLib: https://www.manualslib.com/manual/106993/Motorola-Talkabout-T5320.html . For the diagram of the Motorola Talkabout T5320, see https://www.manualslib.com/manual/106993/Motorola-Talkabout-T5320.html?page=14#manual . The Keypad Lock is described here: https://www.manualslib.com/manual/106993/Motorola-Talkabout-T5320.html?page=21#manual .

I hope this helps. I usually use my Motorola Talkabout radios with the keypad lock active. I hit the various button accidentally when working in the field.

One radio will receive messages but will not send a message

It is possible you have your PL code set differently between the two radios.

Instructions: Hold the PTT in while turning the radio on, listen for the code to be announced, use the PTT if needed to change the setting, then press the monitor button to lock in the setting. It will then announce whether it is 12.5 or 25k channel spacing. Use the PTT to change the setting if needed. Then press the monitor again to lock it in.

If you need more assistance give us a call. (google our name)

Here is a link to a list of older TalkAbout user manuals. Use the pulldown menu to look at various models. In general, most of them program similarly by using the menu button to select the feature and the PTT button to lock in the change. http://www.giantintl.com/motorolafrsold.htm

Motorola Talkabout

Hello trailrunner,

Back when Family Radios first came out a number of manufacturers came out with both standard 14 channel radios and scaled-down single channel radios designed as entry level offerings. My guess is the radio you have is probably a single channel unit based on what you describe. It probably operates on FRS channel 1 (462.5625 MHz).

If you post the model number and FCC ID number (which should be located on a sticker on the back of the radio) I might be able to give you some more information.

Best Regards,
Ken
