There is no picture on Sony KDL-46EX710. Screen is completely black. Tried all sugggestions by Sony on-line techs, and nothing worked. Any suggestions before I take set in for service?
Try changing the input device to something you are sure, works such as a DVD player. If result is same, if this is an LCD TV, show a flashlight (torch light) from a safe distance on the screen and check whether you can view the picture. If you can, the backlight is not getting on. A case to be handled by a qualified service technician.

You probably have a bad LCD Panel. It is a common failure. If the unit is out of warranty, call Sony at 1800-222-SONY and see if they could help with the cost of repair. They would require a Service facility to evaluate it to be sure it is the Panel.
Hope this helps,

I'm having the same problem. I have noticed on mine that the menu when brought up is clear and I can see it perfectly. The picture on all the inputs is just as described above though. BUT, like I said I can see the menu just fine. This leads me to believe that it's not the panel. Anyone have a solution to this, or at least know what could be causing it?

Hello,
IF YOU HAVE A SOLID BLACK LINE RUNNING VERTICALLY THEN YOU HAVE A FAULTY MATRIX INVERTER. IF CENTRAL THE MAIN VERTICAL INVERTER NEEDS CHANGED. LEFT = LEFT VERTICAL INVERTER RIGHT=RIGHT.........
ANOTHER WAY TO GET THIS FAULT IS WORN OR DAMAGED RIBBON/PLASTIC GOING FROM THE SCREEN MATRIX TO THE INVERTER
Take care in solving the problem...

Hi mstevens376,
Power on the unit in the dark room then shine with the flashlight directly in
the screen, you will barely see the images. This is because your backlight is
not functioning. The following reason is the caused.
1. Power supply - missing
B+(supply voltage) coming from this board feeding the inverter board. This is
caused by faulty transistor, dried/leaky electrolytic capacitor, open fusible
resistor.
2. Inverter board - even
the B+ is good from the power supply, if the fuse, driver transistor, driver transformer
is faulty no output to the backlight resulting to black picture.
3. Busted backlight - even
inverter board is good but if this is busted resulting to black picture also.
Diagnosing the fault is technical and if you don't have necessary tools and test instrument and can't fix it yourself, I would
advice you to look for an experienced
technician to isolate the
problem.
Hope I helped you.
Have a nice day!
Thanks for using Fixya.
