If you mean that the "white noise" can't be squelched, the problem is within the squelch circuit or the window detector. You'll need to find a service facility than can repair this, but few electronics repair shops are left & most can't handle this type of problem. If you are in or near NJ, contact me at 973-831-5900 between 10 AM & 5PM weekdays.

Yaesu ft-857 squelch problem

Your RF gain control needs to be turned all the way up to be able to receive signals and if you are on one of the HF bands like 40 meters or any HF band the squelch control needs to be all the way off! You do not use squelch on HF! When on VHF or UHF then you would rotate the squelch control just to the point that the background noise stops and go no further. Higher squelch settings will only block weak signals and your radio will be deaf! Squelch control rotated just to the point the background noise stops! NO SQUELCH ON HF. Turn the squelch all the way off on HF!

I can't turn off the squelch on my Radio Shack Digital Trunking scanner.

On all channels, or on one channel ? Some channels are "birdie" channels, check your user manual. Others are problem channels receiving false signals from computers, monitors, receivers, internet equipment, FAX machines, etc. If your in conventional mode, if in Digital mode the squelch is set by the processor, and I don't believe the squelch has any effect in that mode.

Squelch won't turn off, won't go into power save mode

Power-save mode means the radio is being turned on and off repeatedly, to save power. The radio turns on, & if it hears any signals (i.e., if squelch circuit determines a station is being received), it turns on the speaker; else it turns off again to save power. So, squelch and power-save modes work hand-in-hand, and your problem is squelch circuit is either set too low, or a station is being received by the receiver. Download/look at the owner's manual and adjust the squelch circuit for a higher setting, and it should go into power-save mode again.
Good luck.

How do I adjust squelch. Squelch is locked on

I suspect you have it in the continuous monitor mode so follow the directions for getting back into the automatic squelch mode.

AUTOMATIC SQUELCH: The FRS is equipped with an automatic squelch circuitry filtering out weak transmission and unwanted noise, usually caused by terrain conditions.

MONITOR:
- This feature turns off the automatic squelch feature, either momentarily or continuously. It helps in receiving signals to its maximum range, but may pick up static signals, too.

Momentary monitor:
- Press the MON button; the monitor symbol will appear.
- Release the button to restore the automatic squelch.

Continuous monitor:
- Press the MON button for more than 2 seconds until a beep sound is heard. The monitor symbol will appear.
- To restore the automatic squelch, press and release the MON button again.

NOTE: You cannot transmit when the Monitor feature is activated.

This comes from the manual I found on-line at:

I have a galaxy 33hml and i can not figure out how to set it up with the nobs i mean can you help me....

first of all is it set up to a antenna source? if so then turn the squelch nob counter clockwise all the way, then turn the device on. next start at channel one and slowly turn the squelch clockwise until the pin moves or you hear static. then surf the channels adjusting the squelch to to that static point until you find your active station. from there to cancel static between transmissions turn the squelch so that it is just below the static marker.

Cobra PR4750WX - how do I adjust squelch?

You are right there is no adjustment. You can however turn the squelch off and this maybe what is happening to you.
To turn the squelch off you press and hold the button that is just below the push-to-talk button for at least 5 seconds.
To turn the squelch back on, you either press (less than 5 sec.) and the same button or change channels.
When talking with a specific party or group, you should use the tone coded squelch (CTCSS) and that will mitigate the noise if you are not already doing that.
