I have an HP pavillion slim line but a lcd universe monitor with speaker added. I have no sound but everthing say it should be working. check the sound icon bottom right corner right click on it to adjust volume or to untick mute if this does not work you might not have a sound driver loaded.type in your comp details and download sound driver from internet. hope this helps.
1st check would be to see if the mute button is active on the soft keys if not. go into the control pannel switch to classic view open "sound" ( for windows vista and "sounds and audio devices" ( for windows XP) make sure that all of the mute tick boxes at the bottom of the volume control are un-ticked, hope this helps
1. On restart, press F8. This should bring you to a screen with various boot options.
2. Select "Last known good configuration". Windows then may load correctly.
3. If this doesn;t work, try the same thing. This time select "boot in Safe Mode". If Windows now loads in Safe Mode you should be able to restart and Windows may load correctly after this.
4. If these two both fail, you may have to repair Windows...
the boot sector is damaged at this time, try again the system restore, if all else fails you need to install a fresh OS XP home version be mindful of all your drivers cause you need this afterwards
