SOURCE: Problem with Mercury PI845GVM motherboard

fine ur problem if very simple as u installed 512 mb RAM on ur pc if at possible try to connect on to the other slot and restart the computer and check ur RAM capacity in ur os if it shows as same 256mb then ur have to change ur virtual memory settings i.e memory allocated to the video so configure ur virtual memory as per requirement then free up RAM memory ..

Steps for virtual memory configuration.

  1. Open System in Control Panel.
  2. On the Advanced tab, under Performance, click Settings.
  3. On the Advanced tab, under Virtual memory, click Change.
  4. Under Drive [Volume Label], click the drive that contains the paging file you want to change.
  5. Under Paging file size for selected drive, click Custom size, and type a new paging file size in megabytes in the Initial size (MB) or Maximum size (MB) box, and then click Set. If you decrease the size of either the initial or maximum page file settings, you must restart your computer to see the effects of those changes. Increases typically do not require a restart.

SOURCE: RAM not found as 2x512MB

Are you finding these number when you go into your bios or from a program such as CPU-Z? If you are using good quality DDR400 memory, it should be posting with the full amount of memory available. You are using the correct slots to get dual channel, but you may want to try slots 1 & 2 or 3 & 4 to see if it will post with the full amount of memory as single channel. You may also want to have a friend try the memory in their computer to see how it posts, you may have some bad memory.

take out the old one - the cap protecting it is on the bottom, held with one screw - and insert the new one: lift and pull then press and lower it.

Game not working due to less video memory

Restart your computer and your friend's computer, at the same time. Press <DEL> to enter BIOS-setup on each computer.
Do both computers show _exactly_ the same amount of RAM?
One BIOS-setting may allow you to "dedicate" some of the RAM to be used for "video-memory". Do both computers show the same amount of "dedicated" RAM?

2G Memory Upgrade

I had similar problem with CORSAIR XMS2 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory

If this is your RAM:
Corsair 1024MB Value Select PC2-4200 (533MHz) DDR2 RAM, 128Mx64non-ECC, 240-pin DIMM, Unbuffered, CL4, Lifetime warranty (VS1GB533D2) Then it is high density. You need low density to work, look for one ending with an 8, not 64.

Memory Problems (MSI KM4M-V Motherboard)

if you know the make and model number of the memory sticks you will need to contact the manufacturer to find the voltage specifications so you can adjust the bios accordingly. Or do a google search with the model number and make of the memory stick for voltage details

Ram Upgrade Problem

There is nothing wrong and your install is OK.
The laptop has used some of the RAM as video RAM for the video card that is part of the motherboard.
You should have noticed that with a single 512Mb RAM you would not have the full 512Mb RAM available to you, the video has grabbed 128Mb of RAM.

One of the ram isnt recognised???

This is likely a memory timing incompatibility. You can go into the BIOS settings of many motherboards and set the timing specifically for each RAM slot, but without knowing exactly which piece of RAM you have I can't tell you what to set it at. You could use the utility CPU Z, install one stick, run the utility and write down all the memory information, then install the other stick and write it down too. Then go into your BIOS and see if you can set all of your specifications to match the memory.

Of course if you could find someone to swap sticks with that would be easier. Some motherboards are more picky than others about which sticks they work well with, name brand manufacturers are more picky than aftermarket in general.

Acer Aspire T-180 Memory Upgrade question

Hello, You might be able to add 2GB more. 1GB per slot. You need to get the model # off your motherboard and verify what the maximum amount of memory it will support. 1GB per slot would be 4GB total but some Operating systems will only support 3GB. So some might be wasted if that is the case. You would need to use the same memory type. So if existing is PC2-4300, use the same. Hope this helps.
