Vtech phones loosing connection to base

I bought a new i5808 replacement battery online from the vtech website, and received it yestereday. Question, how do I know if its charging correctly? My two phones(i5871 and i5808)were giving me a low battery, constantly loosing signal to the base and had static in the line after a year of use.(thats expected)I'm not sure if my phone is charging right. I let it charge overnight, and this morning I tested it and it seemed to work fine.(connection to base was excellent, no static and signal was not lost when walking aroung the house) When I went to put it on the handset charger, is displayed battery low. When setting the phone on the base and the amber light comes on, that means its charging right? Is there some firmware update im missing or a setting on the phone that I am not looking at the regulates charging options? This is a great phone and I love the options. I figured I buy a battery first and test it on the i5808. If it fixed the low battery, static, and connection loss issue I buy another battery for the i5871.

You are pretty close to the solution. The problem is the charge detection in the handset. All handsets on a cordless phone detect the battery level with an hexadecimal value in the memory. Each hex value equal a volt value of the battery. EX: 3.5v = 9B
3.6v = 9C 3.7v =9D etc... The problem is the hex value in your defective handset are all mess up. So 9B is not 3.5v anymore. Then your handset could last 1hr after foul charge or doesn't alert you before the phone goes dead due to low BAtt.

We are having similar problem with vtech 5808

Install new batteries! Be sure to let them charge fully (overnite) before first use.

I have 5 of the i5808 expansion phones around my house - most about the same age - and they all started acting up ithin a few months of each other. I "experimented" with a new battery for one, and it solved the issue for that one phone...so I replaced the batteries in each of the others that were experiencing the problems. This was about 2 to 3 months ago, and all phones have been problem-free since the new battery installs!

Hope this helps.

I am having the same problem. Had it last year, too but bought new batteries for all the handsets and that fixed the problem. However, this year I can't find the batteries anywhere!

Vtech 5808

This model of phone have serious problem regarding the battery. This phone use a lot of juice out of the battery. I'm pretty sure that when your battery is foul charge it doesn't do it. So the problem is in the handset. When your battery starting to get to low you loose your connection. Why?...Because the detection to LOW_BATT in your handset is not calibrate adequately. So it thinks that the batt is weak, to weak to make a conversation.

The other problem could be that your handset doesn't really foul charge your battery. So when you are to far from the base or talking for to long . There's not enough power in the battery to raise the output signal level(db) to your base.
