It is essentially a bag that holds a decent amount of water (enough to soap and rinse with) that is designed to be heated well by sunlight. It is not necessary to take camping, but can be very nice if you want to clean off. Women also tend to appreciate more than men. ;)
Sounds like you put in the wrong soap. Dishwasher soap should not froth up. If it is all frothed up keep adding cold water manually and keep pumping till all suds gone.
