Sirius Sportster SP-B1 Boombox

First of all, I have been a subscriber to sirius since about 3 months after the release. I am a lifetime member and still to this day is my favorite christmas persent to myself ever.

3 months ago, my channels were being updated and now the headunit has problems in the boomboxes that I haqve.

Now, I have two different boomboxes. One loacted in my house and one inside my office at work. Both never were the same after that "update". It says "antenna not detected" on the screen and the only way I can get it to work is by wedging a folded paper in between the inserted headunit and the slot for the headunit.

Basically, i have to mash the headunit into the cradle for it to work. I have no problems with it in my car, but I recently met a guy that has a boombox at his house. I took it over there and my headunit doesnt work in his boombox but his headunit worked fine in both of my boomboxes.

This is very fustrating to have to wedge this paper in there, plus it doesnt work all the time or sometimes not for very long.

Any advise other than buy a new system?

I have the same problem with my boombox. It started two days ago in my boombox, but it works fine in my car dock.

I have the exact same problem.  I took the unit apart and found that the soldered connection for the antenna had broken loose.  It is too tiny for me to resolder.  I also have a lifetime subscription...that means lifetime of the unit, not my lifetime.  I was told that I can buy up to 3 new units and I will still have lifetime service.  I plan on living a long time so, I want to get this first unit fixed.  Can I have it resoldered somewhere?

Your best best is to replace the units. Sirius usually does it for free for existing customers. You can a good discount on a new boombox as well. The new models are designed to work with more Sirus receivers on the market.

Sportster 5 turns on and off randomly every few seconds hooked to a dock.

Sportster units get very hot ! If you use it in the boombox stop ! Take the radio unit out - remove the silver cover from the boombox ( don't overlook the 2 hidden screws under the speaker grills ) take a dremel tool with a cutting wheel - and cut all the shrouding away around the top of the reciever. This will allow the radio to run way cooler ! I also drilled several holes thru the swivel mount to allow better air-flow !

MY BOOMBOX KEEPS TRYING TO ACQUIRE A SIGNAL AND WON'T PLAY

Check the antenna plug in in the back of the unit ! There is a very fine wire that sticks up in the middle of that jack ! It is very easy to bend it over losing a good solid contact to the antenna ! Also these things run very hot ! Carefully remove the speaker grills and the two screws they cover. Then you can open them up and drill cooling holes in the housing to let them shed some heat !

When i place my sirius radio into the base, driver side speaker goes off and on but most time i only hear the passanger side speaker working, I had my sirius sportster for 3 years. I think it is the base,...

when you listen to a cd or the normal radio does the drivers side speaker work? if it does then it is most likely the base is the problem. you might have a loose connection in your car. or the speaker is blow.

Sportster randomly turns off.

Remove the batteries from the boombox. If there is no batteries in the boombox, and it still does this, then the boombox itself is no longer any good.

Sirius sportster sp-tk1, always displays "acquiring signal"

Sirius does not stand behind their products, There is no out of warranty repair for their radios,  and they do not offer sites for repair. Seems  like this is a definite problem with this model. Their solution is to buy a new radio,(with all the new-docking,boombox etc) accessories. also they charge $75.00 to change to the new radio.I liked my sportster 1 because of the FM modulator. It just had to be centrally located and all the radios in my home picked it up(no docking) the new radios require $50.00 docking stations for each stereo location and radio location, unless you bring a boombox everywhere, and the sound isn't the same.    I feel there should be a class action lawsuit against Sirius for these reasons and I might look into it. What do all you think?
