Brother PE-400D sewing- Bobbin casing not turning.

HI, I have a PEBrother400D. I have used it very little up until the last 60 days. I was embroidering and the top sewing thread kept winding around the bobbin. Finally the machine quit working. I noticed the bobbin casing was not turning. I put a new bobbin casing in it. It still is not working. Everything down below is turning except the bobbin casing when I turn on the machine. Does anyone out there know what is causing this? I hate to send it out for repair if It is not broke or some small part I could order. Thanks Thank you, Patty

SOURCE: Bobbin won't wind

I have checked the gears underneath and see no missing teeth for the bobbin part. The bobbin "seat" does raise, but does not engage. Thanks

You need to adjust your top tension and maybe your bottom tension ( the little screw on the bobbin cover) Also check your needle and make sure it's straight.

For embroidery, and zig-zag, and because the needle makes side movements, it needs more needle thread.
So try to keep you needle thread not very tight,
and tight up your bobbin case tension more, so that the two threads meet under the meterial.

Wind the Bobbin
For the usual jobs, it is the best to use a medium sized thread.
2. Disengage the flywheel by unscrewing the coupling knob as far as it will go.

3. Place the bobbin on the bobbin winder, and push the bobbin winder to the right.

4. Pull out one of the spool pins and place the spool of thread on it.

5. Pass the thread through the bobbin winder tension discs, as indicated.

6. Wind the end of the thread around the bobbin by hand, in the direction indicated.

7. Wind the bobbin, at a medium speed by pressing lightly with a finger on the spool so as to stretch the thread better and thus fill the bobbin to a maximum. The full bobbin stops automatically.

8. Re-engage the flywheel by tightening the coupling knob.

9. Cut the thread and remove the bobbin from the bobbin winder by pushing the latter to the left.

On some of these machines when the bobbin winder is on it stops the rest of the machine from working. Push the bobbin winder mechanism to the left and see if your machine will work.

Just got the sewing machine last night - read the manual, etc - the tension of the bobbin is way off. tried every solution mentioned, but its still not working

are you adjusting the little screw on the tension spring on the bobbin case by minute amounts each time? Only turn it a quarter turn each time you change it.

If you do the dangle test, (suspend the bobbin by the thread tail) the bobbin case and bobbin should stay still in the air, but a gentle tug on the case should release thread. Adjust the little screw with the mini screwdriver in your kit until you get it to this point. turn it left to loosen and right to tighten.

Also check that the bobbin is in the bobbin case the right way, page 12 of your manual should show this. Yout want the bobbin to turn anticlockwise when you pull the thread tail. Then load it into the shuttle using the latch on the bobbin case to secure it.

It is possible that the tension spring itself is faulty in which case you can buy a new bobbin case for the machine from the local machine shop, or http://www.sewingpartsonline.com/brother-lx-3125-parts.aspx

When I push the button to sew, I get a message stating that the safety has been acitivated. There is no thread tangled and the needle is not bent.

try turning the handle toward you if it won't move then it is more than likely the bobbin case is in wrong take the bobbin case out and try turning the hand wheel toward you if it works simply replace the bobbin case back into the hook area correctly and that should fix the problem

I have a brother sewing machine but all the patterns come out with the bobbin thread showing

When you pull gently on the thread from the bobbin area, do you feel slight resistance? There should be resistance but it should not be tight. If the bobbin thread is in the bobbin case tension area properly and there is no resistance then you need to tighten the screw on the bobbin case to increase the tension on the thread. Do not tighten the top thread tension. To get to the bobbin tension screw on the case, some models require that you remove the needle plate and then the bobbin case. Some have a hole in the front housing that allows you to reach the screw without taking off the needle plate. Also make sure you're hooping the fabric tightly. When you snap the fabric when it's hooped, it should make a drum like sound. If the fabric is loose in the hoop, bad stitching will result

My brother PE-400 sewing quit sewing

The "race" on your machine needs adjusting. Remove the bobbin cover, bobbin, & case. What you have left is the race, it moves when you turn the large wheel on the top right of machine. The needle also moves up and down. There is a hook on the race that catches the needle thread. Try moving the race to the line up with the needle. It may take a couple of trys but it should do the trick. Also clean any threads that may be caught on or arround the race. Hope this helps!

Bobbin thread coming up through top of design

My 270D does this when I'm about to run out of bobbin. If you just replaced it I'd guess you either wound it wrong or are using the wrong type of bobbin spool. It could be too loosely or too tightly wound.
