SOURCE: i need to know the right angle to sharpen my chainsaw

If your saw still has the original bar and chain, it was supplied with a .325" pitch chain and you'll need a 3/8" round file with a sharpening guide to properly sharpen it.

Here's a link to the Husqvarna site to the Rancher 455 models so you can select the correct manual to download, that matches your particular saw, based on the year of manufacture, etc.

There is some excellent information about maintaining your saw, along with a really good guide with step-by-step instructions for proper sharpening.

The saw cuts at an angle does this mean the bar is bent

Possibly, but it is more likly that you have sharpened the cutters one side shorter than the other, measure the cutters, and file them so as they are all the same lenght.

Chain saw chain is loose

Loosen the side cover nuts, then turn the adjuster CW to bring the chain up to the lower edge of the bar, then check to see if the chain will move fairly easily by hand. Tighten the clamp nuts and recheck tension. If chain seems to get loose quickly again, it may not be sharpened correctly causing heat to build in the chain. You should see no reflection of light from the cutting edges if filed correctly and the saw should require very little pressure for it to cut rapidly. Hope this helps!

Have the chain professionally sharpened (Stihl or Husqvarna) at a saw retailer (take your saw). While there ask them to verify the gauge of the bar and chain are the same. When you return to pick-up your chain bring a few pieces of wood. Ask them to make a few cookies with your saw. Please reply with the result.

What size file to sharpen chain for 55 rancher

It depends on the chain you have installed on the chainsaw. You can look at the numbers stamped on the drive link side of the cutting chain and it should have a 2 digit number that correlates to the size.

The factory chain supplied with the #455 rancher was a .325" pitch 3/8" chain.

Here's a link to the specs for your saw with some useful info
