Use A =DMM check the speakers omhs.if the ohms are not correct or very close to it speaker is bad is there any rubbing sound when you push down on the cone ..also indication of blown coil.

You can use a piece of speaker wire to replace the missing bar. those speakers are designed to be used with the bars in place for normal use. they can be removed if you are bi-amp/bi-wireing them.

If you can remove the rear cover check to see that the speaker mounting screws or nuts are tight. If they are the speaker is blown or defective. I would contact Boston Acoustics if it may be still under warranty or can be repaired. good luck

The PV600 and PV400 have auto-on circuitry that turns the subwoofer on when a signal is presented, and turns off if no signal is detected for 15 minutes.

Not knowing which Pioneer receiver you have I have dropped in the steps for No Sound from Subwoofer:

• Check that the subwoofer is connected properly, switched on and the volume turned up.

• If your subwoofer has a sleep function, make sure it is switched off.

• Make sure that the Subwoofer setting is YES or PLUS (see Speaker Setting on page xx).

• The crossover frequency may be set too low; try setting it higher to match the characteristics of your other speakers (see Speaker Setting on page xx)

• If there is very little low frequency information in the source material, change your speaker settings to Front: SMALL / Subwoofer: YES , or Front: LARGE / Subwoofer: PLUS (see Speaker Setting on page xx).

• Check that the LFE channel is not set to -80dB , or a very quiet setting (see Bass Peak Level

on page xx).

• Check the speaker level settings (see Channel Level on page xx).

Regarding the Large vs Small assignment of speakers, what they mean isn't so much the physical size but the ability to handle real bass. Large if Yes.

I just took my sub apart and found that the surround on the driver speaker inside the sub was totally crumbled and lying in pieces throughout the sub box.

I'm looking around now for specs on the sub speaker so I can find a replacement.

Crackling is usually a sign of a blown speaker or a misaligned coil.

Both can be very difficult to fix themselves.

However you may be able to buy a new speaker .

You would have to dismantle the sub and remove the broken one first.

A goo hi-fi shop or even musical instrument shop may be able to help you with that.

You would need to know the impedance of the blown unit along with its frequency range. That information would usually be in your user manual.

Its not a difficult job but if it is a powered sub then be aware of electrical hazards and ensure it is disconnected from all sources before attempting any work.

Yes it can be fixed if you can get the case off!
