I have outdoor security lights that run on a timer. Are there some that use a motion detector?

Yes, in fact most people have motion-detector activated lighting so they can know if there is suspicious activity outside of their home. Many security companies also offer systems that allow you to operate the lighting at your home from a smartphone or personal computer, which can help save electricity when it comes to outdoor lighting.

I have this light for 2 years with no problems at all. recently, it seems that the "left side" of the sensor stopped working. (If I walk right in front or in the right side, the lights will come...

  1. Locate the sensor on the motion detector. The most common problem with a motion detector is a sensor that is obstructed or dirty. Remove any dirt, grime or anything else that may be blocking the view of the sensor. If you need to actually touch the sensor itself to clean it, use a soft cloth or cotton swabs.
  2. Determine if the motion detector has electricity running through it properly. Connect an electrical meter to the wires from the sensor itself. If electricity is indeed running to the sensor, you likely have a broken senor. If there is no electricity making it to the sensor, your motion detector has an electrical short. In the case of an electrical short, you will need the help of a professional electrician to fix it.
  3. Visit a hardware or supply store to buy a replacement sensor

Thanks for understanding.

I have a MOD 600 alarm, installed about 9 years ago. Every time I pass a sensor the alarm makes three beeps. How do I stop it?

Hello. This is a normal response to the motions detector while people are active within the home.
The alarm is a semi active mode that is the motions detector will beep, if a door is open there could be active voice alarm or beeping from Central alarm within the home. The same will happen if a window is opened, beep, beep, beep.

In this mode it lets the home owner while in his/her home that the alarm is on and it will let you know when the doors, windows or floor pressure sensor is activated.

There another mode for the alarm system that is if you have pets. It can be activated that only things that are inactive is the motion and pressure sensors. They beep but will not execute the full alarm system.

The there is full alarm system activation where every sensor is operational----full Alarm On....

Now, if you don't like the beeping, then you can turn the alarm system off while you or your husband is in the home. But it will not notify you if the door, window, motion, pressure sensor are activated. I hope this help you. GB....stewbison

I have two outside motion detector lights acting weard

I don't know what type of sensor you have , but most have a sensitivity and range adjustment on them, I would turn one or both down and see if that helps. Also make sure the sensors are not aimed at each other, the heat from the bulbs on the other fixture can cause the opposite fixture to trigger on & vise- versa. Good Luck

Press the system status button on the top right and the system should announce the error message that is keeping it from accepting the code.

Wiring diagram 3 way motion detector switch I want the motion detector to be in the hot line box, and I want a regular 3 way to turn the light on from the load box. So far I can only get the motion...

Sorry, but you need one extra wire between the switches to wire "the opposite configuration" that you want :-(
That means going into the attic and pulling another cable :-( I can walk you through it if you are willing to do all that work.
The only other solution would be to purchase the commercial version of that motion switch, which would also require a sensor at _each_ switch location :-(

Dsc sensor not operating properly. I want to change it, is this very difficult? Thank you.

You don't mention what type of sensor. I assume it is a motion detector. Before replacing I would strongly suggest you first remove all power from the system by disconnecting the backup battery inside the control panel then pull the system's power transformer which should be plugged into an electrical outlet nearby. You will know that all power is removed by looking at the keypad - all lights on the display are off. Next remove the motion detector's front cover. Some detectors have a small screw on the bottom so that when removed the cover pops off. Others need to be opened using a flat blade screwdriver and prying off the cover. Once the cover is removed there should be a 4 conductor wire that is wired to a series of terminals. Observe the polarity of the wires, disconnect them and remove wall mounting screws. Install new unit. Be sure when wiring to connect power wires correctly. The 4 conductor wire should have a red (positive) wire and a black (negative) one. Connect the red to the + or pos terminal and the black to the - or neg terminal. Read the instructions that came with the new unit if in doubt. When finished plug the power transfomer back in then reconnect the battery (in this order). If power is connected properly the motion detector's red walk test light (indicating motion) should light whenever you walk in the protected area. Also make sure the system recognizes motion by first closing all protected areas such as windows and doors to get a system ready or green light indication on your keyad, then walk around the protected area. A properly working detector will show you a fault on the keypad everytime the system senses motion.
