As i said, I have plugged in not charging, I put the AC adapter in to the port, the blue light turns on for about 10 seconds and then turns off, at which point the icon when hovered over says `Plugged in, not charging. Also, Despite saying for example 91% charged, ive timed it and when unplugged turns off after about a minute and a half. I have no idea :(
The battery no good, at END OF LIFE
like all do this old.
buy a new battery.
or run with no battery at all and be happy.
I suggest your battery has outlived it's usefulness. Perhaps you can get an even better one from an internet retail place. I've bought larger ones for various laptops and never had one fail prematurely.

If possible try another power cord for the battery. If this does not help than please update your notebook. Click this link. Pick your operating system.

Look for HP Systems Software Manager & install. Than run. This is a utility that automatically detects and updates BIOS, device drivers, and management agent versions on your notebook PCs. Streamline mass deployment of HP System Software updates. Your charger could be defective & liminting the total charge. The updates may fix this. Post back if nothing above helped!

It sounds like you have a faulty power jack, and possibly a dead battery as well. You should take it to a person you may know that can order and solder a new one in or take it to your local electronics repair shop. I do repairs like this on a daily basis for my computer business.

If you can use the charger successfully on another device, i'd still suggest it's the battery. Many of the charging cords are the same size...can you try another, even if it's not the same power, just to see that the charger is not bad?
The charger may be shutting down ad it is trying to charge a failed battery and senses too much heat in doing so
Take the battery out and try powering the computer on without it installed
