1. The game starts with a kick-off: The game starts with a coin toss to determine which team will take the kick-off. The team that wins the coin toss gets to choose which end of the field they will defend, and the other team takes the kick-off.
2. The ball is in play: The ball is in play as soon as it is kicked and moves forward. Players can pass, dribble, or shoot the ball to try to score a goal.
3. Offside rule: A player is in an offside position if he or she is closer to the opposing team's goal than both the ball and the second-to-last defender when the ball is passed to him or her. A player in an offside position can only play the ball if a teammate touches the ball first or if the opposing team plays the ball.
4. Fouls and penalties: If a player commits a foul, such as pushing, tripping, or holding an opponent, the opposing team is awarded a free kick or a penalty kick, depending on the severity of the foul.
5. Yellow and red cards: A referee can show a yellow card to a player for unsportsmanlike behavior or a red card for a serious foul. A player who receives a red card is sent off the field and cannot be replaced by a substitute.
6. Throw-ins: When the ball goes out of play on the sidelines, the opposing team is awarded a throw-in. The player taking the throw-in must throw the ball from behind his or her head and keep both feet on the ground.
7. Goal kicks and corner kicks: When the ball goes out of play on the end lines, the defending team is awarded a goal kick, and when the ball goes out of play over the end line by the attacking team, the defending team is awarded a corner kick.
