I am trying to finish the setup of an HP 5610 on a Widows XP laptop, it used to automatically launch th HP Solution center when a document was loaded in the top tray, now it will not. The Automatically show the HP Solution Center - will not start even if the auto start settings are checked, any Ideas?
It appears their are issues with HPSC in newer OSs:

I'm not sure if HP is even supporting HPSC anymore. Perhaps you can use this instead (appears to be HP's new one):

I would also have to recommend that you not use Windows XP anymore as Microsoft has not supported it since April 2014. Good luck.
SOURCE: tray 1- load plain letter
Linda,
On printer check media/paper type tray 2 or 3 is plain and tray 2/3 is set for letter paper size too, via printer control panel. Also check under paper handling other options for tray 1, also on tray 2 and 3, I think there is a blue little round switch on left should be set as letter not custom.
Some paper types cannot be feed from anywhere else but tray1/bypass ie labels/laminate/card stock.
Check print driver on pc has tray 3 option installed and is not set as default to print to manual bypass/tray 1
light flashing cause printer wants paper type/size that it "thinks" it hasn't got in tray 2/3
If that dont cover it...post back

SOURCE: HP LaserJet 2840 Scanner problem
Yes, but I don't see any actual paper jams. I have a Vista O/S and I've been reading that that might be the problem; the 2840 scanner driver is not compatible with the Vista O/S and HP hasn't produced a solution yet. I appreciate your efforts, thanks.

this is what HP has to say
This document applies to all HP product models.
Issue
When the product is turned on or in the middle of an operation, an
unexpected noise occurs, such as clicking, thumping, or grinding.
Blinking lights and error codes might accompany the noise.
NOTE: Noises can be caused by a number of things.
This document focuses on isolating, identifying, and resolving known
causes of product noises.
Solution
Noises are subjective and can be difficult to describe. Some noises are
normal to the operation of the product and might include the following:
Abnormal noises are a symptom of a problem. The most accurate way to
determine the origin of a noise is to isolate where it comes from and
when it occurs. Use the following steps to try to isolate the noise
issue.
NOTE:
Error codes might indicate the source of the noise. Make a note of any error code or blinking lights that appear.
Step one: Check for loose or broken parts
Step three: Check connection with computer Turn off the computer
to determine if the computer is the source of the noise. If the noise
persists, proceed to Step four. If the noise stops when the computer is
turned off, try to isolate any issues with connectivity:
Step four: Check for a paper jam
Paper jams can prevent the internal components of the product from moving, which can create unusual noises.
NOTE:
Remove any paper jam carefully as it is possible to damage the product when removing a jam from the front of the product.
If the product is plugged into an uninterruptible power supply, that source might make a beeping or whistling noise.
Step eight: Service the product
If you have completed all the steps listed above and are still experiencing a problem, service the product.
