Recently bought a 52" Sharp
LC52SB55U.I run an optical cable from my cable box to my home theater, and an hdmi cable from my cable box to my tv. With my Philips tv, this worked fine. With the Sharp, I get surround sound while the optical cable is connected to the home theater, and the hdmi is unplugged. When I plug the hdmi cord into the cable box while it is detached from the tv, I still get surround sound. The second I plug the hdmi cord into the tv, I lose surround sound. Any ideas? I'm stumped.
I want to run all my media to the TV and then just have the optical (toslink) cable give surround sound to my old receiver that does not support video. I'm curious if the lc52sb55u is able to take the 5.1 from HDMI and pass it out the optical out? I think this may be the issue. Does anyone know if the TV just doesn't support this or if I need to turn something on or off?I want to run all my media to the TV and then just have the optical (toslink) cable give surround sound to my old receiver that does not support video. Try running the optical TOSLINK cable from the TV to the receiver. If the TV doen't have a digital optical output, then try going into the menu on your cable box and setting the audio output to the digital optical out. Also check your TV menu and make sure NETCOMMAND is diabled. Some of your newer HDTV have Netcommand that allows the TV to control other devices through the HDMI cable.

try running the optical cable from your dvd directly to your tv and then select whichever input (eg HDMI 1/2 etc) you use to play the xbox on..In theory this setup should allow any audio playing on the tv to go through the surround sound..hope it works
How is the cable box audio connected to the Samsung? That is where the sound comes FROM. HDMI carries signal TO the TV.
The single optical digital input is a limitation if you get HDTV through cable. You probably use it for the DVD.
I found this quote from the manufacturer's propoganda, "deliver the greatest impact from all your digital media". Yeah, all ONE hardware source of it.
You could manually attach the optical output (if it exists) of the Cable Box to optical input on the Samsung for multichannel-audio TV viewing (listening). OR, you could run the RCA L&R analog audio outputs out of the Cable Box into one of the Aux Inputs, but no actual surround will be produced.
as far as hooking up your blu ray player to the sc-pt660, the only real way to utilize the surround sound (with true surround sound) is through the optical audio out. You need to connect your blu ray player through hdmi to your tv and then connect your blu ray player to your surround sound using the optical audio out/in. I, personally have the sc-pt660 hooked up through component cables so I don't waste an HDMI input on my TV. Except for cd's, there is no reason for you to use the actual dvd player part of the surround sound considering you have a blu ray player. In conclusion, hooking your blu ray player and the sc-pt660 up to get better video simply isnt possible (your blu ray player alone gives the best possible resolution, 1080p). As far as audio goes, run an optical audio cable from your blu ray player to your sc-pt660 to get true surround sound.
have you connected the optical cable. as the only way to get sound from the tv to the surround is via that link. the hdmi cable only send video and audio to the tv not both ways for some reason.
For connections of audio, so that you can hear all tv audio through the surround system, connect either an optical audio cable or red & white analog audio cables from the tv to the home theater. If you are using optical audio, there is a plug on back of tv labeled for digital audio output and an input on the surround sound system. If you plan on using analog red and white, use the PROG OUT red and white output jacks on the back of the tv to the AUX input on the home theater.
For video connections, to get HD you will need to be using either HDMI or Component cables. HDMI is the cable that will provided 1080p signal (the best HD signal), but if the source does not output 1080p, then your tv will not display 1080p. Most cable boxes output at 1080i or 720p when on HD stations. This signal still provides great picture quality, but HDMI is not needed to get these HD signals. You can use component cables for your cable box and the DVD player output to the tv for video. HDMI might give you a slightly better picture quality but the signal will be the same.
To make the connection, you will want to connect from the cable box to the tv (component or hdmi). Also from the home theater system to the tv using hdmi or the video cables from component (red, blue, & green cables).
all wrong! look at the back of your tv input panel you will see 2 rca jacks labelled audio out use rca cable (stereo) then connect to your audio receiver input labelled tv or any available input like cd vcr ....etc.let me know.
Like above, use an optical connection (need fiber optic cable) or a coaxial connection (single RCA cable). HDMI might also work, but I personally haven't checked. Connect the audio outs from the cable box to the audio ins on the home theater. The TV will only need a video connection from the cable box, as well as one from the home theater (for DVDs, onscreen menus).
Run a regular RCA type audio cable from your TV audio out to your Home Theatre audio in. That is what I have done recently with my Samsung LCD and Home Theater. You then have to put your Home Theater on Aux 1 or Aux 2 to get the sound from TV. Ensure your TV's volume is off.

No digital sound comes from Digital Coax or Optical and in order to utilize a digital signal u need HDMI or Component although component wont be truly digital. Try running everything to the TV then the sound out of the TV into the sound system. If its a high def source like high def cable box then use the optical conection on the back of the aquos and plug than into your surround system. if ur system doesnt support Optical or digital coax then you need an updated surround system. If i misunderstood your question im sorry. If u live in CT though stop by Circuit city in North haven. either myself, Dave, or my associate Justin should be able to help you out. and dont worry we're not on commission or anything.
