No, this is a design flaw of the early Razr phones. The only way to silence then is to step down the volume, which makes noise at every step. A truly inexcusable oversight, and one of the reasons I ultimately gave up that phone.
When I was in a place where I had to mute the phone without making noise, the only option was to power it off.
I understand that you can, with the cover closed, scroll to and select the silent profile, and press the lone button to activate the silent profile, but I no longer have a RAZR to test that.
the problem has a solution. There are two way to deactivate the silent mode on the phone:
Through the Menu, or Through short cut.
Go to through the menu, click on the menu button, you will see the settings of the phone. Click the setting button and scroll to the second option on the menu which is ring styles, click to open option one which is the style.
When you click the style option, you will see all the style options available in there. Then you can now select the one you want.
If you want to go through the short cut option, just hold down the harsh button ( # ) it will automatically deactivate the silent option.
you need to go into the sound and turn it on, most likely the sound to the keys has been turned off to silent so go in and try that and see if it works and let me know good luck!
Try to find "personalize" setting of some kind, and then change the smart key to perform something else, so it doesn't go set silent mode. I am not familiar with your phone, but on RAZR v3 smart key activates camera. However you can change it to do something else. The steps would be different for your phone I assume, but if you need an example of the general steps, there are videos on www.HandBookLive.com under Electronics category on Motorola RAZR v3 and there is a chapter on "Chaging Shortcuts"
