SOURCE: Hi my sewing machine is
The most common fault on sewing machines is bad threading or poor needle. Start with a fresh needle even if you have just changed it. Make sure its up as far as it will go. The Long groove should be facing you and the flat to the back away from you. A thicker needle is less likly to cause skipping. If the fabric flapps as it sews it may skip (flagging). If the fabric is stretchy, that can make it skip... solve by sewing a tape in for support. If that fails undo the needle clamp screw and pull the needle down slightly by say about 0.5mm. Tighten the clamp screw firmly. Turn the machine by hand to make sure the needle is not striking the parts within the machine. Test sew again. If that dont work all you can do is take it to an engineer. Dont let him sell you another. Its what they do. If they try, go elsewhere.
