Replaced both plugs, air filter, new gas. We replaced left side coil and it ran fine, mowed half my yard about 2 hours worth and mower began running rough again, no power, backfiring, . We replaced right side coil and mower still runs rough with no power. We started engine and removed plug wire from right side engine still ran. We replaced sparkplug wire and removed left side sparkplug wire and engine died. Brand new coils, new plugs , new airfilter ,and new gas. Any ideas of why she isnt running right? thanks for any help

carb dirty, jets partially plugged, float sticking. Not so uncommon problem and is caused by the fuel left in the carb over the winter gumming up (going bad). You can attempt to clean this on your own if you are somewhat mechanically inclined. Search small engine repair and it will give you a generic breakdown of the parts in a small engine carb. If not the, to have someone overhaul a small engine carb will run you about $120 including parts (at least around VA).

I have same problem only thing ive found is gas tank may not be venting properly. Fill tank about half full and leave cap off, if still stalls then probably engine problem

i would also check fuel flow. pull the gas line from the carb and see if gas flows out at a good rate (into a metal can of course) or if it trickles out. if the latter, then gas tank either has junk at the bottom preventing the gas from flowing or the vent hole (usually on the gas cap) is plugged.
i have also had my carb float bowl rust out on me, but that took 10 years.

If you are able...have someone do a compression check on the engine. Usually if a mower is loosing power and it is a twin cylinder engine, one of the headgaskets may be blown.
SOURCE: 12.5 hp craftsman runs fine for only the first 1/2 hour or so
You are so right, the coil has a small crack the opens up as it heats up. You know the old saying as metal heats it expands this causes a open circuit.
Testimonial: "Thanks, just didn't want to buy the part without checking. $45 bux to find out that it is a different problem that typically occurs would be bad."
