Why would you raise the beater if you want it to reach the bottom of the bowl? You need to lower the beater. Turn the screw in until it just touches with empty bowl on high speed then turn it counter clockwise a 1/4 turn so it will just clear.

Contact Kitchen Aid. My understanding is that they will take care of it evenif it is over year old. It would be worth a shot.

If the beaters are hitting the bottom of the bowl, try adjusting the upper-head stop-screw located near the top of the lower stand--it determines how far the head drops down and therefore, the height of the beaters above the bowl bottom. Hope this helps!

Turn the mixer over and look up where the pin goes through the two pieces. There is a screw there which secures the pin. Tap the pin into position and tighten the screw.

Hi - I've been searching for general info on KitchenAid stand mixers and ran across this so I'm throwing my $.02 in... Since KA stand mixer bases are essentially made of cast metal parts, there is a very slim chance that there is a lateral misalignment (side-side) unless it got dropped...eek! It sounds like the worm gear has failed. It is quite common when the mixer has been used to try and mix something it cannot move in the bowl:

This may be explained with the bowl assembly. Being a bowl lift mixer, please follow the following steps to make sure the bowl is being secured before mixing:

There are the bowl-holding arms on the left and right hand side of the mixer. You will place the bowl on these arms, securing it onto the pegs.

Also, take your fingertips and press down firmly at the back of the bowl where it is resting against the base. You will hear an audible click as the bowl secures down into a spring latch mechanism on the stand mixer base, allowing the mixing bowl to sit flush and secure.

This sounds like an issue of beater to bowl adjustment, which can come out of alignment naturally over time and with use of the machine.

If the flat beater is striking the bottom of your bowl, this may cause the locking mechanism to loosen and may cause the mixing head to "bounce" during use.

Your Use and Care Guide will cover the "beater to bowl adjustment," which you can do at home in a few minutes with a flathead screwdriver.
