I have a Sharp Carousel R-1461 and yesterday it stopped heating. Every time the door closes, the light remains on and it sounds like it is running, but there is no heat. I have unplugged it and tried again, but it still does not work. The buttons work to some extent, I can set the time and power level, but I cannot get it to stop running without opening the door. I am also unable to enter a cycle time or start a cycle. The turntable is not moving. What could this possibly be, and, is it worth fixing? Thank you very much for any information you can offer me.
I have the R-1460 in the same series with the identical symptoms. After reading MicrowaveSvc's solution I started taking apart to view the door switches and found the upper door switch to be the problem, but not a switch failure a support failure. A small bottom plastic support post that holds the switch in place was broken (probably from repeated use/abuse) allowing the switch to move when the door hooks were engaged, thus not actuating the button switch. Since the problem was mechanical rather than an electrical bad switch, I made a small support arm for the switch from an old plastic mechanical pencil and glued it in place to hold the switch in its correct position. Problem solved, microwave works! Thanks to MicrowaveSvc's description of door switches.
You probably have a failing door switch or the mount which holds your door switch is loose or broken. In most designs, it is the upper door switch that will produce these very symptoms when it is intermittent or its mount is broken or loose. Opening the door while cooking (without first hitting the STOP pad) is the primary cause of door switch failure. Slamming the door, damage during shipping or transportation and sloppy manufacturing techniques or materials are the primary causes of trouble with the door switch mounts. I have a text file called "doorsw.txt" which helps in diagnosing and repairing door switch problems, and a file called "safety.txt" which is of vital importance. If you or a friend decide to work on it, we have *critical* safety and disassembly info at our site, which is linked at our listing here on FixYa: http://tinyurl.com/yzjozk

One of your door interlock switches is defective . I would suggest having it repaired by a qualified repair tech in your area.

This
is usually caused by either a bad door switch, a loose door switch
mount (which are pretty simple problems to fix) or occasionally a
problem on the control panel.
Even though a door switch clicks, it may still be bad inside.
Door switch
or mount trouble can be caused by slamming the door or by opening the
door while it's cooking without hitting the Stop pad first.
There are
plastic mounts inside the microwave which hold the door switches and
onto which the door latches lock when you close the door.
The screws on these mounts may be loose. If they get too loose, the switches will not be activated properly.
Sometimes it's
a broken tab on the switch holder, allowing the switch to rotate just
out of position. This tab can be hard to see, since it is under the
bottom edge of the switch.
One test that sometimes helps is to
gently lift up (and/or push down) on the door or handle as you try to
start it. If it works or tries to work, then it's a door switch mount or
door alignment issue.
If you or someone you know decide to look

switches at our site, and our link is at our listing here on FixYa:.

Yes your oven's controller is probably malfunctioning you need to replace the SYSTEM BOARD but I personally suggest to buy an other oven.... the system board will be hard to find and expensive...
See if other electronics is acting funny since the power loss... you could CLAIM the damage from the insurance company
Good luck!!
