Hi. My Rohm Supra keyless chuck releases the hex bit when I attempt to use it to remove roofing screws. The drill and chuck are 20 years old with little use. I have attempeted to fix the problem by removing and re attaching the chuck but without success. Any help would be appreciated.

Keyless Single Sleeve Chuck
Your tool features a keyless chuck with one rotating sleeve for one-handed operation of the
chuck. To insert a drill bit or other accessory, follow these steps.
1. Lock the trigger in the OFF position as previously described.
2. Grasp the black sleeve of the chuck with one hand and use the other hand to secure the
tool. Rotate the sleeve counterclockwise far enough to accept the desired accessory.
3. Insert the accessory about 3/4" (19 mm) into the chuck and tighten securely by rotating the
chuck sleeve clockwise with one hand while holding the tool with the other. Your tool is
equipped with an automatic spindle lock mechanism. This allows you to open and close the
chuck with one hand.

I had the locking screw come loose in the center and bottom of the chuck it has a left hand thread and is a torx head . It had backed out and prevented the chuck from closing.
SOURCE: drill chuck swap
1. Turn the screw clockwise to take it out.
2. Then you needs 3/8 allen key & insert the short side of the allen key & tighten the chuck.
3. hold the drill at the edge of the table & wack the allen key
counter clockwise & do it again as needed.
4. dewalt keyless chuck will fit but you might add a washer to insure the chuck is not rubbing the clutch collar.
5. putting it back together the other way.

It should have a retaining screw as far as I know. It may be a torx head in this machine though. Normally left hand thread screw, then normal thread for the actual chuck. It's always worth tightening the chuck a bit before removing the inner screw as it can put pressure on it and make it harder to loosen.

if chuck is wide open ,look down inside there should be an allen screw or bolt at the bottom of the chuck it should undo anti clocwise and the chuck comes off

Howdy Rowdy! The jaws are loosening if drill engaged in reverse encounters resistance from screw. Chuck staying put. Jaws operate freely and no other problems with unit .
Thanks

Many thanks Rowdy!

O.K. next question is the chuck a hand tight keyless or power. Meaning do you have to use the drill to lock the jaws (power) or do you turn the collar and lock down. Also when inserting a bit it is best to bottom it out and then pull it out away from the screw some so the jaws can fully tighten. If it still does it I would think that even though it has not been used that much you would need a new one and I would stay away from ROHM chucks. I have dealt with chuck problems in the past on this brand. Good luck
Is the chuck jaws loosening up or the whole chuck coming off? Also how freely do the jaws operate
