GE upright freezer has started making snow inside

20 cu ft GE frost free upright freezer has recently begun creating a snow like frost inside. I suspected the door seal/fit but I've checked that and it's closing tightly. Have had a problem with this unit creating ice in the bottom--caused by discharge drain freezing up--but this is something new.
Thanks

It appears that the seal is not intact. I'm getting small amounts of ice forming on the top shelf and "snow" build up on the bottom shelf. I've purchased weather stripping and tried to install this around the seal but it isn't holding nor stopping the problem.

Check these two things first.  1.  Is there a thick frost buildup on the back panel at the bottom half of the freezer?  2.  Do you hear the fan running inside the freezer?  Let me know what you find.

SOURCE: Not Freezing, but cold

The thermostat should be a close circuit when requesting cold temps. or when asking the compressor to come on. The exterior surface on some freezers warm when asking for cold inside. Yours has a condenser coil on the back and that should warm when cooling. If compressor is runningit should be wrm if no freon has leaked from freezer somewhere.
The defrost timer should rotate clockwise during the day and give approx. 3 defrost daily or about every 8 hours. Until the thermostat is resolved and asks for a closed circuit the compressor will not come on. Unplug freezer from outlet, remove thermostat wires, then turn the thermostat to its coldest setting and check again. If no closed circuit the thermostat will need replaced first. Hope this has helped you, Sea Breeze

SOURCE: Upright freezer door inside developing ice

The door seal is at fault. Regardless of the small tear it is not sealing well.
Take a dollar bill and close it in the door. Then pull on the bill to feel resistance.
You will find it pulls easily in some place. That is where your air leak is that is causing the condensation.
Do this about every 6 inches all the way around the seal.

Hi most deep freezers operate at 0 dergrees. your model may have 2 temp zones. 0 or 20 deg.I'm gessind that your sensor is going off when the defroster is on to melt ice (defrosting). Lower the setting. monitor and repeat as needed. if it continues you may need to replace the unit or ad freon. If the unit is over 13 years ge a new one.
