I have a Renegade power wheel chair in pristine condition, but the batteries are both dead, and seemingly will not accept a charge. I charged them for over 24 hours with the charger that came with the chair, but after that time period, the batteries less than 1/2 volt per battery. The charger in question is functional. The owner's manual claims that this charger begins its cycle by charging slowly, then builds up as the batteries accept the charge more readily. I don't have a separate "trickle charger" available. Is that the answer, or does someone out there have something better up their sleeve?

Sounds like the batteries are completely dead, you'll probably need to replace them, sometimes you can only use batteries until they die, and that goes for Wheelchair Batteries too. If they won't charge or keep a charge then they are dead.
SOURCE: batteries not charging - just replaced
1st Check the 25amp inline fuse located behind the volt meter. 2nd Check the 50 amp fuse located behind the foot rest. A pin located under the foot rest when pulled out will open the front to access the fuse.

Replace the batters and used the correct battery charger, Not a car charger.

you need to have the batteries tested it is possible that if left in a discharged state for an extended time that thee batteries may be damaged and will not be able to be recharged

Romp, Did you check the freewheel levers chair will not move if you are in freewheel. Levers are in front next to seat posts and need to be facing forward. If you are not in freewheel then check the number of lights you have on on the joystick and that they aren't flashing. Also check that your speed control is not on the lowest setting even with some charge a slow speed setting will not let the chair move. Now by some charge you mean lights in the green on the joystick? If the lights aren't flashing then I'm kinda unsure other than even with some charge the batteries don't have enuf current to drive the motors and need to be replaced Hoe this helps

newer chargers will not charge dead batteries they look for voltage to check the polarity, charge it with an other battery to give it a little voltage
