If there are no lights on the control panel then initially check if connections to the panel are fine.If they look fine then you definitely need a new control panel.
No need for a new touch panel.Its always that the control panel goes faulty,not the touch panel.

If you are talking about the integrated control design on the top of the d/w door panel then no. They are designed to fit tight underneath the counter top for a better look.

I had this same problem, ordered the replacement control panel from whirlpool. The new panel worked for two weeks, then stopped working again. OUCH!
The replacement part costs $264.34 and has no warranty if you do it yourself.
I think I am now going shopping for something other than a Whirlpool or Maytag machine. They have terrible customer service.
