Usually self clean is simply turn your oven on at full temperature and leave for 30 minutes. This will burn off most of the grease and grime and I do mean BURN off, so make sure you've got the extractor fan running if you've got one. The bit that's left will build up over time, getting thicker each time you run the self clean. To remove the brown tacky or hard black residue you need to use a good quality oven cleaner like Buy Oven Mate 39 Just For Racks 39 Cleaner From Kleeneze Your online shop...
for cleaning racks or Buy Oven Clenaing Gel amp Brush Set From Kleeneze Your online shop for... for cleaning the oven body.

Power outage could have shorted out the control panel. Call the power company and put in a claim with your insurance company. Tis happened to me & I was able to reset the oven, even with a glowing bright & dim panel. Thought everything was ok but the upper oven doesn't stay on & the oven probe doesn't work, but it's too late for me to file a claim.
The self clean setting on ovens should be labelled "Self Destruct". This often overheats the timer. This company does oven control repairs. You just remove the timer and send it to them. They repair it for $106 and send it back. There is no charge if they can't repair it.
hi there! I have a moffat stove and hopefully these instructions help you.
First clear out the racks in your oven. Take them out and remove any excess chunks at the bottom.
Then close your oven door and lock it by pulling the lock latch.
Now looking at your oven knobs [not your burner knobs] turn both of them so they are both on the arrow knob [your oven knobs should have small pictures on them and both should have arrows]
Now you need to set the time so in the middle of your oven their should be a timer and one start and stop timer on top of each other. Both timers go in increments of half an hour. So if you are starting your self cleaner at 3 move the dial to 3 or if you are starting at 3:30 move the dial to one tick after 3. Once you set your start timer, you need to set your stop timer.
Setting your stop timer, it is recommended to set it for 3-5 hours. I set mine for 4 hours. So then set stop timer to time you want the cleaning to be. If you set your start timer at 3:30 put your stop timer at 7:30.
The oven will start cleaning according to the time you set. The oven will get very hot. I recommend to not used the burners as the temperature goes to 500 degrees! You will smell an odor and that is your oven cleaning....
Hope this helps...
Personal opinion. Do not mess with settings on a gas stove. Call a gas oven repair tech and have them come out and fix it. That way if it happens again you have someone to call
Hello d_i_a_n_a18,
In order to put most ovens into the self-clean mode, there are a series of steps that must be initiated in a specific order. On most units the oven control needs to be set to bake or clean and the temp. control needs to be set to clean and the door lock mechanism must be engaged for everything to work. I would suggest that you consult the user's manual for directions for your specific model. If your manual is not available, check on line at the kenmore parts web-site and you can usually get a PDF version of your manual. Good luck.
Can you locate the model number on the oven? Also any particular name of the stove? The manufactured year. These should all be available on a stainless steel or aluminum attached plate , probably on the back of the stove or inside the door.
I wouldn't try using the self cleaning feature until we get some advice. it could lock up on you and not UNLOCK. Normally self cleaning takes place at 600 or more degrees .
I'm sure others still have the same stove., I will see what I can find for you.
