Generally speaking, if you have connected it to a power source when it has completly drained it should display 'Please Wait, Very Low Battery' (without the backlight). If it does, leave it until that message disappears. Pressing the play button should now wake it. However, If you have been charging it for a while and nothing has been displayed the battery my be dead all together. With the iPod connected press the Select and Menu Buttons together until an Apple symbol appears (non-backlit) it should then startup. If it turns off when disconnected from the power then you have a dead battery. If none of that solve it I offer a repair service at a very low cost.

HOW TO UNLOK THE A1136 IPOD

click start control panel scroll to folder options tick in the box to show hidden files and holders

connect your Ipod to your computer

click start click click on you Ipod to open

then go Ipod controls device there should be a folder saying locked

right click select rename to open or delete the folder your Ipod should now be open

or you might do a factory reset

The iPod A1136 is the fifth generation iPod from Apple that uses a click wheel to scroll through your device's media library, and may occasionally lock up when you attempt to play a song or display a photo.

This error error occurs when the hard disk is unable to access the information and stalls while opening a file.

A reset of the device usually corrects the problem, as it clears the device's memory and any errors.

Check your iPod's buttons to determine if the cause is due to a hardware error before resetting the device, as the problem may be due to the iPod's hold switch.

Slide the hold switch at the top of the iPod to the right, and slide it back to the left to ensure the switch is in the off position.

Hold down the center button in the click wheel, and at the same time hold down "Menu" on the click wheel.

Continue to hold the iPod's buttons until the device's screen shuts off, turns back on and shows the Apple logo.

Plug the iPod's connector cable into the dock connector on the bottom of the iPod.

Plug the other end of the cable into your computer's USB or FireWire port to charge the iPod.

Wait at least two hours for the iPod to charge. Launch iTunes on the computer, and click "Controls" of the iTunes menu.

Click "Eject iPod" in the sub-menu to disconnect the device.

The iPod takes four hours to completely charge its battery.

hope this helps

I want to know which generation is the Ipod 30G model A1136, thanks

There are two 5th gen iPods, A1136 model is the older 2005 model, not the later 2006 model.

Here is Apples link: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1353#ipodfifth2 which will show the differences, but not by model number. The reason I know this model number is the first 5th gen 2005 is because I have one. Also older 2005 should have '2005' engraved on rear.

Ipod video 30GB model a1136

All you can really do is make sure the iPod is fully charged before watching.  Video files require more system reosurces than music files, so it is very possible that it will run down in a couple of hours or less. There are no longer-lasting batteries that can be used with this particular mp3 player.

Apple iPod Model A1136, 30 GB.

First make sure your hold switch isn't on. It's on the top or bottom and slides back and forth. It needs to be switched to the left. Once it is to the left, here's how you reset:

You can reset your ipod by holding down the menu and select (round button in the center) buttons down for at least 10 seconds. You'll see an apple logo flash, that's when you stop pressing the buttons. It will shut off, then back on.
