How do i adjust the squelch?

Just bought a pair of the radios: one seems to be picking up faint signals all the time: I guess I have to adjust the squelch. How do I go about it? The other radio is fine. Thank you for your time. Massimo

Turn the squelch control clockwise just enough to cut the background noise, this should work well for local communication.

Turn up the RF gain, all the way and leave it there. Make sure the squelch is down.

Hi, You may want to check your PA/CB switch (should be in CB position) by moving it up and down a few times. A Cal switch if present in your model normally stands for Calibration which is a feature to measure the SWR of your antenna and should not really affect the TX/RX function of the radio. If still a no go, you may have to seek the services of a qualified radio technician or bring it back to your dealer for repair/replacement. Good luck and hopes this work out for you. Pls post again how things turn up. Kind regards.

Squelch has a hissing that want quit, only when a station start talking.trunning dials dont work.

The squelch control is advanced as far as required to quieten background hissing and weak radio signals - the squelch is an adjustable barrier that blocks unwanted signals and if advanced too far can also block wanted signals.

Many portable and handheld radios today employ an automatic squelch.

If the squelch control isn't working it is a job for the repair shop...

Why won't my Realistic Pro 2020 stop scanning

You might have the squelch turned up too high so the broadcast cannot break the squelch open. Here's an instruction manual (with how-to) for your scanner. Seems easy. Also make sure you have a good antenna so you can pick up signals.

How do I adjust squelch. Squelch is locked on

I suspect you have it in the continuous monitor mode so follow the directions for getting back into the automatic squelch mode.

AUTOMATIC SQUELCH: The FRS is equipped with an automatic squelch circuitry filtering out weak transmission and unwanted noise, usually caused by terrain conditions.

MONITOR:
- This feature turns off the automatic squelch feature, either momentarily or continuously. It helps in receiving signals to its maximum range, but may pick up static signals, too.

Momentary monitor:
- Press the MON button; the monitor symbol will appear.
- Release the button to restore the automatic squelch.

Continuous monitor:
- Press the MON button for more than 2 seconds until a beep sound is heard. The monitor symbol will appear.
- To restore the automatic squelch, press and release the MON button again.

NOTE: You cannot transmit when the Monitor feature is activated.

This comes from the manual I found on-line at:

The scanner is a model PRO-2050. It will only do squelching sound on all the channels and will not bring in any messages. I completely emptied the scanner. Then I put channel..1-8 in. yStill hear...

Hello,

Once you hear the sqelching, than you want to turn it back just till it stops. Make sure you have your scanner antenna all the way up and adjust it, slowly down, till you scanner starts to pick up. Believe it or not, the antenna has alot to do with picking up signals. Plus, you need to have it by a window, to help pick up stronger signals.

Radio shack can make you a copy of all the codes for this scanner. I would contact them, about your problems.

Kind regards!

My blackbox radio breaks squelch only when button is pushed.

I am familiar with radio programming software , but not your model. You could have squelch adjustments or settings that need to be set in the software end. Did you set something to mute? Can you set the signal level for the radio to open squelch? Are you able to connect to a service monitor and inject a signal and see where it does break squelch? These are things I would check.

Uniden UH-013 squelch

Had an issue with this unit since new. Squelch adjusted too high. Not hearing some signals showing on meter. Solution - find a trim pot labelled "Meter" on the PC board and adjust it like a knobby squelch control. Made a big difference to the number of received stations. Down side is I need to use SQT tight squelch sometimes.

Squelch doesnt work

Open the component / speaker side cover on the radio, adjust VR3, this is the alignment control for the squelch. Set your squelch control knob on the front of the radio to about 10 o'clock and slowly adjust VR3 until the signal from the speaker is mute.

When you turn the squelch back to the 0 position, you should have signal with no squelch as in normal operation.

Thanks!

I am also new to radio scanning

Hi, you do not mention where you are located, but my first guess is that you are trying to listen to some freq's that are not compatable with your scanner. The squelch you use to quiet the white noise, so when someone keys their mic the squelch opens easy and allows you to hear them. The scanner you have is a standard FM analog style scanner. Nowdays there is also digital and encripted, trunktracking, and more. None of the different styles are compatable. On my scanners at home I run an external antenna to pull in a greater range. Our local area still runs the standard FM radios. If you respond back with some info, I might be able to narrow the problem down further.
Thank you,,, Mechanic
