Baking When getting ready to use the oven sometimes you have to turn the burner on top of the stove on slightly to get the oven to turn on. It goes into preheat mode and then u can turn the burner on top of the stove off. It will get to baking and maybe go ok for 5 minutes and then it will shut off. If you turn the knob on the burner on for the top of the stove it will turn the oven back on. during the course of 45 minutes of baking it may shut off 5 or 6 times. you have to constantly monitor it. Any info appriciated.

SOURCE: Jenn-Air JES9860 burners and oven stopped working problem with display

sounds like you lost power to your stove. if you can't reset the clock, it needs to be replaced. in otherwords, the power outtage shorted out the clock.

have a technician replace it.

SOURCE: Oven Burner turns off during preheat

Mike, I think your problem is in the ignitor itself. Turn the gas off and see how many amps it's drawing during the bake mode. It needs between 3.2 and 3.6 amps to keep that valve open. Then ohm out the temperature probe, appox 1132ohms at room temp. You can see if your electronic control will go into a quick test by pressing and holding the cancel and broil buttons together for 3 seconds. First kill the power to the range and power back up before entering. When quick test appears you can check the bake relay by pressing bake. The relay should activate and 1 should be displayed. Same thing for convection bake except the fan should run too. Catriver...post back.

SOURCE: clock assembly

my automatic cleaning setting in my oven will not heat up. I set "clean" on both dials and put the lock on, the fan comes on but no heat. Is there a certain system to turning it all on and the timer so it will work?

SOURCE: Burner switches got wet, sparked, daughter put baking soda on them, and two front burners won't light.

I also got too much liquid into control switch area & had sparks. Mine needed a new electronic ignition system. I purchased my range in Jan 06 and they are covering it under warranty now, Nov 08. To open the top, unscrew 2 small screws inside the front top oven. Then unscrew all 5 burners (10 screws). Then you should be able to open the lid about 12". Repairman propped mine open with a screwdriver while he worked under there.

SOURCE: I have a Jenn-air electric

The answer your provided by email only confirmed what I suspected -- that the vent system was probably overheating and would cut out at a certain point.
Thank you for fast reply. I may have to get a pro to confirm this, as I'm an old lady with NO skills for taking stove apart and installing new vent motor.

During the cooking for our Christmas dinner the temperature started declining from the 350 degrees to 280 degrees. We tried the top burner to make sure the stovetop was working and the whole thing shut...

Hi Jane,
Ouch! Sorry about the Christmas dinner. I sounds as though the circuit breaker tripped.
First, find the circuit breaker panel.

1 Check to see if a breaker has tripped. These breakers are double sided because stoves are
240 volt appliances, like the water heater or the house heater. There is a bar that connects
two single breakers together. The breaker will be slightly off center to the other breakers if it is tripped.
2 If it HAS tripped DON'T TURN IT ON YET
3 Go back to the stove and plug it in.
4 Turn on a top burner(not the one that may have tripped the breaker) preferably one that you know works that you don't use very much.
5 Go back into the garage and turn on the breaker.
6 If it goes on OK go back to the kitchen. You have done the first diagnostic test.
7 Check the burner to see if it is getting hot. If it is, turn it to high and then turn on the burner that blew the breaker in the first place. See if it blows the breaker again. If it does not. Turn on all of the burners that you know work. You have now done several Diagnostic Steps that are important.
8 If one of the burners trips the breaker, you have one of the culprets. If not, GREAT.
9 Shut off all of the burners
10 DO NOT TURN ON THE OVEN
11 Open the oven door and look very carefully with a flashlight at the bottom bake heating element. Look at the the entire element. If it blew (similar to when a light bulb blows) you will
find white powder around the hole in it or it will be completely broken, or have bubbles in it. Some indication like that. If so it has failed and must be replaced.
12 There is one other rare possibility, but it would not have blown the breaker. Many ovens have clock baking timers. These timers will, shut down the oven. If someone adjusted the timer and didn't turn the knobs in the exact right position. It will ruin the party shutting down the oven at the worst time. But it won't shut the stove top burners down.
IF YOU HAVE FUSES INSTEAD OF BREAKERS
If you have fuses instead of circuit breakers, Find several of the large cylinder shaped fuses to conduct the diagnostic tests I suggest. They are usually available at home depot.
RARE PROBLEM
One last but very rare occurence with breakers is their specifications sometimes change over a long period of time. If that is the case, they will trip and lower and lower overload levels. Simply Replace.

I hope this helps,
Good Luck
Best Regards,
Mark

GE Profile Stove baking option not working

Possibly the bake igniter, the temperature sensor or the electronic oven clock/control. Does broil mode heat properly or does it run cool also? If broil heats to the proper temperature then the temperature sensor is probably ok. That leaves the ignitor or the controller which takes some more troubleshooting. If it is the controller, we repair them at www.fixyourboard.com.
