Cub cadet rider runs till hot, coughs, and dies. try to restart w/puffs of black smoke to no avail. Runs well after a few min. then repeats

Last summer a similar thing happened.leaving me w/an empty fuel filter.so i removed the filter, and it ran the rest of the year. now i dont have a filter and it is acting the same. Almost like there's no gas, and no spark at the same time. does not smell flooded, but when running, occationally smells somewhat like paint thinner

Try to run it with the fuel cap loose. if that solves the problem replace the fuel cap with new one the vent is bad in it. if not it could be the coil is breaking down at high temperature. may need to check to see if it has fire right after it shuts down. if it don't have fire replace the coil.

SOURCE: the mower is a cub cadet it usually runs fine

I had the same problem , found out it was the coil was getting hot. I replaced the coil which was not hard , remove 2 screws an unhook 2 wires. You have to get the coil from a dealer , in my area anyway. Hope this helped.

SOURCE: cub cadet 1610 rans the battery down went mowing.

Hello bigdave1138:

From your Description it Sounds like the Stator/Charging Coils are Bad or the Voltage Regulator (if Applicable) is Bad.
For Testing the Electrical (Charging) System on Mowers you can Use this Site Addy; http://faqs.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/faqs.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=3438&p_created=1101706364&p_sid=4fQ1f8Xi&p_accessibility=0&p_redirect=&p_lva=3443&p_sp=cF9zcmNoPTEmcF9zb3J0X2J5PSZwX2dyaWRzb3J0PSZwX3Jvd19jbnQ9NTEmcF9wcm9kcz0mcF9jYXRzPTAmcF9wdj0mcF9jdj0mcF9wYWdlPTEmcF9zZWFyY2hfdGV4dD1Wb2x0YWdlIGFuZCBTdGF0b3IgQ2hlY2s*&p_li=&p_topview=1 and Use the Link for AC Volts/DC Amps Meter Setting Chart. This is for Briggs Engines and Works Well for Kohler and Other Engine OEMs.
Please, Do Not Hesitate, If you Hit a Snag or this Does Not Correct the Problem, I am Here if You Require More Assistance.
Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please. May the All Mighty Bless You and Yours. Be Safe and Be Happy. Thanks.

SOURCE: My Cub Cadet 2185 only runs about 10 minutes then

Inspect the inside of the fuel tank, where the fuel exits the tank. There might be dirt/crud clogging the line. Also, if the fuel line is too close to any exhaust pieces, or is against the engine, it will boil the fuel and cause it to vapor lock (and stall out). Look for these items and hopefully it will cure your issues. Also clean off all dried grass/dust from intake screens. Also check your oil level. Make sure its in the good range, not over or under filled.

SOURCE: 2160 cub cadet that wont start.hot spark to the plugs

You've solved for some of the equation. Spark. Fuel. Air.....all in the proper sequence. Now, what condition are the plugs ? I'd change them out if they have any wetness to them. Check your fuses as well. Another thing is the 'safety switches' - located in seat, on parking brake, etc. One of these could have come undone or gone bad/loose wire. I'm thinking the latter....

I have a Cub Cadet LT 1040 I started it yesterday it smoked real bad runs for like 30 seconds and dies. It will start back up smoke and die. I looked and oil was leaking around the muffler?

if it starts and runs for 30 seconds that is a fuel issue. carb needs cleaned or rebuilt. fuel filter , bad fuel lines. if it is smoking that is maybe to much oil, bad head gasket, valve sticking and letting oil seep into combustion chamber. it may also be that the needle isnt seating properly and leaking gas into the oil. you have a lot of testing to do to find the cause.

Cub Cadet lawn tractor with Courage engine-sputters and dies after gets hot. Might run 45 min. or only 5 min

An engine that splutters and dies generally indicates a fuel delivery problem. I'd do the simple things first - change the fuel filter, check for collapsed fuel hoses, use a "complete fuel system" cleaner additive and check for a blocked breather in the fuel cap/tank. The latter is the easiest to try to fix (temporarily); just run with the fuel filler cap slightly loose and see if the problem goes away.

Why is my cub cadet xt1 blowing black smoke cleaned air filter made sure oil level is correct.still blows black smoke

Make sure that at full throttle the chock is not being used. Black smoke coming out of the exhaust of gasoline engine is a sign of a rich fuel mixture (too much fuel, not enough air). A brief puff of black smoke may be visible during hard acceleration when the fuel mixture goes momentarily rich, but under normal running conditions and idling the exhaust should be transparent. If black smoke is visible all the time and the inside of the muffler is coated with heavy black carbon deposits, it would tell you the engine has a rich fuel condition.
On engine, a rich fuel condition and black smoke can be caused by a stuck or maladjusted choke, a leaky metal or hollow plastic float inside the carburetor fuel bowl, or a fuel saturated foam plastic float, or an incorrectly adjusted float (set too low). A trestricted fuel filter may also contribute to a rich fuel mixture.

Have 2155 cub cadet when it gets hot spudders then dies wouldn't start until cools acts like it not getting gas what could be the problemn?

To be quite honest it sounds more like a fire issue than fuel. More times than not when a coil starts going bad the hotter it gets the weaker it gets and sometimes stops firing at all until cooling down, occasionally a plug will do this aswell, but I think your coil is going out.

Have a cub cadet 50 inch cut zero turn, after cutting grass for 30 min or so it acts like wants to die but if I shut the PTO off it catches up but will start to die if I reengage the blades. starts a

When it starts cutting out and you turn off the PTO, how long do you have to wait until it can be turned on again? It sounds as if your PTO is overheating and loading down the engine. Run the mower for about 10 minutes, shut it off, and carefully feel the PTO housing. Resume cutting and repeat after it starts cutting out.

Replacing it is not as simple as changing the spark plug, but does not require an advanced degree.
