My Meridian 9516 will not allow the recorded answering message to complete and does not allow anyone to leave a message.

We have the Meridian 9516 phone for many years. We thought it was broken, so we ordered a new one. When we plugged it in an set it up, it acted exactly like the old one. It starts the message I recorded, then it cuts out after about 10 seconds and does not allow you to leave a message if you are calling us. Please help..Sue Donatelli, Mayfield Heights Ohio

    To Lifsabeach: we switched phone service over a year ago from ATand T to Time Warner. Time Warner is who I get my home phone service with this Meridian phone from. Up until a few weeks ago the answering service part of my phone worked just fine.

    I do not have voice mail service with TimeWarner. I deleted the greetings and am using the default and now that stops abruptly too with no way to leave a message.

    Meridian 9516....I am pretty sure they are long discontinued.Perhaps you have a refurbished/repaired phone and why same issue.Sounds like bad flash drive.Suggest you purchase a more modern phone or better yet since answering machines are a thing of the past almost is to get Call Answer from the carrier.

    Time Warner switched their MTA box and we are now able to receive phone messages. I really like the various options this phone provides.

SOURCE: Voicemail

It sounds like you are using a voicemail service from a provider, meaning you did not buy the voicemail system with the phone system. If you confirm, I can tell you how to fix this.

Search the web for a manual on how to use your phone.

If you are getting calls, then the lines are programmed in the system. There is no way to disable the transfer or hold buttons.

SOURCE: visual call waiting

The 9516 is not a visual call waiting (VCW) phone..meaning that you will not be able to view the name and number of the second caller. You must purchase an external call display box (arround $10) , but make sure this is VCW capable.

SOURCE: Phone won't ring. The arrow will flash but no ring. Meridian 7310

you can try to plug it in at a set that does ring and make sure it wokrs there. The programming should not have changed with the phone but ... anything is possible. If it rings at the other location then it will be the programming for that extension. Also check that it is not in DND do not disturb

SOURCE: Need to turn off transfer callback on Norstar Meridian

Ok, well I can explain most of the programming template, but I cannot give you the exact buttons to push since each phone IS programmed differently.

-> first dial FEATURE 985 this will give you the DN(Extn) for the voicemail (record this number) and then RLS
-> now I need you to dial FEATURE 0 on your set, and press the Intercom key to ensure the extension of your set you want to change and then hit RLS.

To get into programming press FEATURE 2 6 6 3 4 4
-> Password: 2 6 6 3 4 4
Now you will see 3 arrows on your LCD
<- Heading Enter->
<- Back Next->

-> you will now see TERMINALS&SETS and press Enter (the top right arrow key) now put in the extn that you want to change.
-> you should now see the extension of the set and the name that is associated with it, press Enter (the top right arrow key) again
-> now you will see LINE ACCESS and press Next (the bottom right arrow)
-> then you will see CAPABILITIES and press Enter. now you will see FWD NO ANSWER and press Enter, and put in the DN of the voicemail you saw with the Feature 985
-> hit Next for the number of rings you want to ring at the set before going to voicemail.
-> hit next and you can now RLS to back out of programming.

Voila, that set once called will now goto voicemail.

-OR-

You can get the receptionist to dial FEATURE 9 8 6 and the extension to transfer directly to someone's voicemail.

Can't elimate the A on the answering machine

Your system is set to "Announce" mode. To allow it to record messages, you need to switch it to "Answer" mode. Enter the model of your VTech system into the search box at http://www.vtechphones.com/support/general/manuals to download a copy of the manual.

Double tone more often called stuttered dial tone means you have a message in your mailbox. This message system is controlled by your carrier who supplies your phone line so you need to call them and ask for the * code to check messages as well the password they have set it at.

Cannot dial out on my Meridian 9516 telephone

Is the Program button on . If it is turn it off. You can also try resetting the phone by unplugging the silver line cord from the phone or the wall jack and then replugging it after about 10 seconds.

Will not allow messages to be recorded.

There should be a series of promps pre-recorded on your phone base. One of the promps should say something like, 'Message Only'. That promp should be in the OFF mode b/c if you leave it on it will not allow anyone to leave a message. It just lets the caller know that you are not available.

On the m9516 what is the fax switch on and off used for?

The Fax Switch
The Fax Switch feature allows you to have two telephone numbers on one incoming line.
There is one telephone number for the line and another telephone number for a Fax Switch peripheral (e.g. fax machine).
To use the Fax Switch, you must subscribe to your telephone company for Distinctive Ringing†. The telephone company will then provide you with an additional telephone number (for your Fax Switch peripheral) which will have a slightly different ring. The 9516 will use the two ring types to determine whether an incoming call is for the telephone or the peripheral. The peripheral should be set to answer after three or more rings.
Note: If Long Distance Ringing† is available in your area, long distance calls will be sent to the Fax Switch peripheral. Also, you cannot use the Fax Switch feature and the Special Greeting feature at the same time. The 9516 must be configured so the Fax Switch peripheral is connected to pins 3 and 4 of jack number 2. See Connecting an optional fax machine or modem on
page 4 for more information.

Note:
If you subscribe to your telephone company for Call Waiting services, your Fax Switch peripheral may lose data or get disconnected if someone calls while your fax is receiving data. We recommend that you do not subscribe to the Call Waiting service from your telephone company if you are using the Fax Switch feature.
