I had a similar problem. I changed the audio to Mono and it helped with the "White Noise" I was hearing. Not sure if this is the same issue, but you may want to give it a try to see if it leads to something else. I hope this helps.

We need to isolate the problem, so to start to you get the fuzzy noise on any other channel or input, do you get the sound without the xbox connected?

  • Justin Washburn Dec 13, 2008

Its not a problem I enjoy fixing things, does the sound stop when you unplug the xbox or dvd player? If it does try switch the wires, plug the red into the white and the white into the red, I want to see if the problem moves.

  • Justin Washburn Dec 13, 2008

ok, now we are getting somewhere, disconnect everything from the tv you have attached, one by one listening for a change in sound, by doing this we isolate the problem to the tv only. with everything disconnected we want to change the input selected, moving from video one->video two-> hdmi-> and so on, listening for any changes in sound. once we isloate it to the tv we can start isolating the area.

  • Justin Washburn Dec 13, 2008

hahahha, that wouldnt be good, lets disconnect everything from the tv, so the only cord running to it is the power cord. see if sound disappears, you said you hooked speakers up to it right? do you do it internally or externally? also does it have a headphone jack? if it does hook some headpnhones up and see if you get the sound in the head phones. we are try to isolate the circuit that is giving us the problem..

  • Justin Washburn Dec 13, 2008

ok, woohoo, we getting somewhere you still have the cover off right? what we are looking for is wire that are very near sharp metal edges, be very gentle we are only concerned with the analog board and the wires going to it. We are looking for any wire that may be grounded, it wont take much from speaker vibration for the metal edges to nick the thin plastic covering on the wires. You have a problem with the analog board or its wiring but we are getting closer.

  • Justin Washburn Dec 13, 2008

The board is a high probability but wiring is just as likely, if one of the wire grounds out itll generate a signal and be amplified by the sound board.

  • Justin Washburn Dec 13, 2008

Well, you have two options have it fixed or troubleshoot it further. With it open you would want to lift wire paying close attention to where they go and what the touch, any wire that are runing to the power suply you want to leave alone and any ribbon cables dont need to be messed with, basically just loook for shorts, you could even use a plastic knife to move wires aroun with the power on to see if the noise disappears. Since the tv is working and what ever the problem is, it is most liekly very simple. If you have the cover off post a pic of the bck of the tv so i can see inside and I can edit the photo and show you were to look.

47 inch plasma about 6 years old.. perfect condition...at times while playing xbox360 or trying to watch dvd it wont pick up signal. What could this be?

Does it suddenly lose signal while you are playing the xbox? sounds like a loose connection on the input board in the tv. but it could be other things. does it lose signal on all inputs or just a couple?

Hitachi 55" Plasma HDTV, 1 yr old, suddenly lost picture and sound, but power light still on.

It sounds like a shutdown circuit is being activated. This is normal in cases where the power supply id drawing excessive current. I would suggest that you get this looked at by a qualified professional. This is because this problem may be in the power supply and the voltages can get dangerous in this section of the TV set.

In any event if this is a power supply problem chances are the technician will just have to replace the power supply. Which should cost from 150-250 dollars.

I hope this helps

Hitachi 42" Plasma HDTV

This happened to me with my first Hitachi 55" plasma. It ended up being the panel itself, which was very expensive to fix. Thankfully mine was under warranty and I was able to get a replacement TV.

Black out?!?!?

I finally got information from the repair shop. Apparently it is the upper and lower panel drive. The parts are supposedly not more than a couple hundred dollars, though I'll let you know when I get the bill. I do want to say that Hitachi was great when I called them. Even though my plasma is out of warranty by a few months, they agreed to pay for parts if I pay for labor. That just might keep me buying Hitachi products despite the issues I've had with my 2 plasmas.

I have recently purchased a Samsung PS50P91FD 50 Inch Plasma Tv. The problem is every now and then while watching tv or playing the xbox the picture is lost and a either the screen goes green or orange...

If this set is still within the warranty period, return it for warranty service. Since this is an intermittant problem, I would request an exchange. If they won't exchange the set (even after going up the chain of management), provide specifics about the problem. State up front that this is an intermittant problem. Once reported, the warranty kicks in even if the problem doesn't become hard and fast until after the warranty has expired since the initial report occurred before the warranty expiration. This is not a problem caused by external devices.
