The DVD player is broken/won't turn and one of my Disc is still in there so I can't get it out

I've seen complaints that there is no manual eject. There is. Unplug. Facing the front of the player, and lifting it up above your head, look under where the disc sits. You will see a number of slits that look like ventilation slits. There is one asymmetrical slit on its own, somewhat towards the front, and somewhat towards the right (if memory serves). The slit is about 3/4 of an inch long. Insert a slotted screwdriver on the extreme right end of the slit (still we're facing the front) side of that slot (a narrow shaft might help, but it doesn't have to go very far in). It should sound like it hits plastic. If not, you may have the wrong slot and you may have shorted things out (I suppose an electrician's plastic screwdriver, or a chopstick shaved into screwdriver shape, would work better). Then slide the screwdriver to the left. You should hear/feel unlatching noises, and the front of the loader should wiggle, and you should then be able to pry it forward (maybe using a screwdriver for leverage) and pull out the disc. When the player dies, it would be nice if it didn't take your--or worse not your--DVD with it.

if its still under warranty, do that.
if it's not, try taking it back to the store and asking for a replacement. don't let the floor salesman tell you no. insist on speaking to the manager. my strategy is to: "be polite, appear slightly stupid, and dont take no for an answer" it works 80-90% of the time.
if you cant get anywhere (or dont want to try that route), then you have nothing to lose. open the case and try to clean the mechanism and lens
two screws on either side of the unit, and i think another 4 screws on the back side. this will allow you to pull the top cover off the unit.
clean the mechanism, and clean the lens. you can buy cleaner if you want, but i just use a soft cloth and some "no-streak" type window/glass cleaner (windex)
clean your disks as well. this DVD player seems to be sensitive to scuffs and dust more than some other players. you just have to be persistent.
or you could buy another DVD player. at $60, its really a pretty good deal anyhow.
good luck

My DVD Player is stuck in profressive scan mode and I can't get it to the menu to change it. Anytime I put a disc in and turn it on, the screen goes blue and says progressive scan mode. It won't let me do anything. Does anyone have any solutions?
