Typically when a mobile device is locked, it wants the original e-mail account name and password it was setup with. If you can log into your account at https://mail.google.com/ that's good, but it doesn't guarantee it's the same account the phone is using or the original password used.
If you don't remember the username and the account was properly setup at creation time, you can recover the name using "I forgot my username" here: http://support.google.com/mail/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=46346 And here's a trick to recover an account name on an Android device: https://productforums.google.com/d/topic/gmail/ydNElvUjJVU/discussion
If you have the username, the following will help with the process to recover the account by resetting the password: http://gmailaccountrecovery.blogspot.com/
BUT... A recovered account won't have the original password which is what the device needs to be unlocked. In that case the device will probably need to have a factory reset done (read the owner's manual for instructions) and then setup again with an e-mail account (be sure to write the information down this time). If it's setup with the recovered e-mail account, any purchased apps and synced data should be restored. If a new account needs to be created, all previous information will be lost.

Hi, I have a couple of idea for you to try.
1) Log in to your google account on your pc, the same account you registered for your phone
2) After logging in look at the top right corner of your inbox/email page, it would say your google username. Like say if you name is John, and you have a google id thats registered to your galaxy s as , [email protected]. Now this google id on the top right corner of the page would be displayed as [email protected]
3) Type in the google id, thats visible on the right hand top corner of your page (like [email protected]) into your galaxy s handset locked page, and type in the password.
TADA AND YOUR ON TO THE NEW SCREEN TELLING YOU TO PUT IN ANOTHER PATTERN.
or theres this one:
Take out the battery, the sim card, and the SD card leave the phone for 2 to 3 hours like that.. Put everything back in and boot up the phone.. This should work.
You could try this instead of waiting 3 hours, just remove battery and press power on switch for 20 seconds but this may not work.
or if you've tried everything, the only other way would be to take it to a Samsung mobile phone shop.
or do a factory reset:
THIS WILL ERASE ALL YOUR DATA THOUGH
Go into recovery mode - vol up & home & power. Once in the menu, select factory reset. It may take you a couple of attempts to get to the recovery mode but it does work, just keep trying.
Regards
Mike

More than likely, you will need to reset your password for your GMail to get back into your phone. Go to Google.com to reset your information.
If you are unable to do this, you will need to do a Factory Restore to your phone. WARNING: Factory Restore will erase all phone data. It will restore the phone back to the stage when you first purchased it.
To restore your phone back to factory settings do the following:
1. Power down the phone.
2. Hold the Volume Down button and press the power button.
3. A menu pops up, release the Volume Down button.
4. Press and release the volume down button to select "Clear Storage"
5. Next, Press and release the power button
6. To confirm, press the Volume Up button
The phone will run some tasks and then reboot. You may then signin with a new Gmail account. I suggest recording your new account information in a safe location for future reference.

Hmm you don't have much information to go buy here but if it's a Samsung it usually asks you to input your gmail to access it or you have in option to answer some security questions in order to unlock it
If you have a Samsung account with your things saved the least you could do is factory reset the phone which will RESET AND ERASE YOUR WHOLE PHONE except for your (line and data of course)then you just sign into the Samsung account and press the recovery option
You can search it up on YouTube or the web on how to factory data reset but here's some instructions if you're still reading
Simultaneously press and hold the power button + volume up button + home key until the Samsung logo appears, then release only the power button. Release the volume up button and home key when the recovery screen appears. From the Android system recovery screen, look for and select wipe data/factory reset.(If you cant swipe you can use the Volume buttons to go up and down and the power button as an "OK" button)
After that just accept everything it tells you
(REMEMBER THIS WILL DELETE EVERYTHING SO MAKE SURE YOU HAVE YOUR THINGS SAVED TO A SAMSUNG RECOVERY ACCOUNT)
