Printer problem We are using a Lexmark T642 Printer. Tray one is set as the default tray. When printing, however, it will only take paper from the upper tray, or MP feeder. Any ideas? Thanks, Gordon

Check your paper configuration. Make sure Tray 1 is configured for Plain paper and is showing the right paper size. If it is configured for anything other than Plain Paper, most of your jobs will not print. Also, if the size says something like Univseral, then the printer is not touch that tray unless your print job also specifies Univeral as the size. If is does say Universal, check the paper guide in the tray and make sure it is pointing exactly at the paper size you are using

T644 Default Paper Source Problem

On the left side, near the pichup roller, of the tray there should be a "flag" hanging down in the elips hole. See if it is hanging down or stuck in the "up"position.
If so pul it down and the machine should work fine again.

Insert tray 1

You can set the default paper source for all print jobs. Tray 1 is the default factory settings, only an installed paper source will appear as a menu setting. A paper source selected by a print job will override the Default Source setting for the duration of the print job. Check the word processor print settings, make sure that it matches with the printer paper menu settings. To do this you may click print and click on properties button. Click on the paper tab and you can set the input options like paper size, paper tray (source) and paper type.

There is usually no reset from the machine it is in your printer properties. Open the properties and set it to the tray you want it to feed from and usually there is a apply button try that.

Lexmark T642 - I have plain white paper in tray 1 and yellow plain paper in the mp feeder tray. When I choose to print to the mp feeder tray the printer beeps to be loaded with paper but the paper is...

Make sure you have selected the multi purpose feeder (front of the printer) in the driver, not the Manual Feeder.

The manual feeder will prompt for paper on each page. All you have to do is to press the "Go" button.

Lexmark t642 load mp feeder with letter

The reason that your printer is asking you to load paper into the MPF is that it doesn't think it has that size paper in tray 1 or 2. Make sure that the green paper guide in the paper tray that you want to print from is latched in the correct position. This guide tells the printer what size paper is in the tray. If you have it even slightly out of position you'll get this message.

Paper source

I would suggest checking printer properties in the computer and ensure the paper size and source is Letter and set to Automatic Choose. Another choice may be to deleted the printer driver and re-install it. You can also go into the menu options until you get to Set factory defaults, press Select, then try the print job again.
I really suspect a program is controlling this from the computer.
To get a list of the existing printer settings, Select Menu and use the Right Arrow button until you get to Printer Menu Settings. The printed report should tell you what your actuall settings are. Maybe the default is set to Custom, instead of Letter.
The Set Factory Defaults option should fix most problems.

Lexmark 642 printer on network will not print to tray three. When anything is sent to tray 3 it goes to tray 2 even though we set it up in our application to trigger $C(27)_?&15H?

I have found that if the print job needs a certain paper size and the tray is reporting a different size loaded into it then the job will pull from the next tray with an acceptable size. Lexmark's paper stops in the trays are easily moved by the wieght of paper loaded in it. If the job requires "Letter" checnk the size tabs on the left side of the tray, they are on the outside of the tray. For "Letter" just the buttom 2 tabs should be sticking out, adjust the green back stop until just the bottom 2 tabs are sticking out and try your print job again.
