Recovery discs aren't working on my hp cq60-615dx, what should I try next?

Orginally, computer was freezing. Diag log indicated error 03F0, hard disk failed. Replace hard drive from a 250gb to 320gb as allowed in the hp specs. Used the HP recovery disc #1, fine. HP Recv disc #2 would stall. Tried it several times, including overnight. After approx at least 10 hours, #2 disc still hanging. I don't recall what I did to get me at my current situation. Power on, black screen. Power on and press the F12 key, = blue screen

Old old Compaq PC. a NOTE BOOK,Presario!
NO OS stated, not a word there.
new hard disk or was that a used HDD??? or SSD would have been 10x better and faster !!!
The Compaq back then has no F10 /F11 hot key restore.
So only real media kit disk work from HP.
not burned disks. not microsoft disk.
here is HP.
see them ask them for real disks,
Only real disk work now,
i bet yours are burned disks, right>? and fail.
if the HDD is new, and passes the BIOS hDD test.
then your CD disks are bad, or the drive is bad.
what we do is make install USB sticks.
and boot to them but on real old PC there is no BOOT TO USB choices in BIOS.
if true, this, then 3 things must be good.
1: HDD new and good. and passes HDD tests.
2: CD disk good. (real ones from HP work)
3: CD drive not bad, most are this old so... there you go. Bios set to boot to CD.

if those were real HP disksets.
id say the CD drive is bad. or used HDD bad.
why not get a linux install disk if that fails
the used HDD you bought is no good.

what i do is boot to Linux live CD then run extensive hDD tests now. this works on any pc made, doing that.

https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/bph07143

more sure. OS installs have many failure mode.
here are more. sure seen them all I have.
and cured them all.
1: battery bad, remove the large notebook battery.
2: falls dead, power pack bad.
3: fails still a power pack can be weak.
4: the LT mother board can have bad power regulators.
5: other mobo failures... lots.

PC are easy when the run (runs like a toaster sure)
but when they fail, not.
take a A+Certifications class and learn more.

here is a 3rd party disk site (media kit)
pick one and pray.

be wise to match your PC's bottom COA sticker.

Appears that recovery disk #2 is bogus. U can try to get a new set from HP (fat chance!) or you can do a reload from a normal, retail OS disk.

Look carefully at the hard drive that you are replacing. When you take it out of the [mine is a Compaq f750us] computer you might see, for want of a better term, a "STRETCHER" attached to the contacts/connectors, remove it. Put it on the NEW hard drive, put hard drive into computer. Try it again. I did and I did NOT get the "error" code! Why because the HD is now CONNECTED...touches the contacts..

SOURCE: Hi everyone, I have an hp Tx1000 laptop. The pc

When you stated that you tried to recover it several times, how were you able to attempt that if you have no video. You cannot see what you are doing.

Nonetheless, you GRAPHICS CHIP is shot. Your laptop is essentially dead. The system will power on but the graphic chip will not produce a video. Often people reflow these chips, however, they seldom last long and the video quality is compromised.

If you can see the video on an external monitor then your screen, LCD Inverter, or Video cable is bad. If you cannot see the video on an external monitor. Your graphic chip is dead. End of the road for your system. Don't waste your time and money on the reflow.

Good luck

SOURCE: Application error when running recovery disk

hi

Did you create any partitions on the HDD?
Obviously the HDD or some partitions on the HDD are corrupt.
In my opinion, you should firstly try to format the whole HDD and delete also whole partitions.
Then insert the recovery CD and try to install the Toshiba image

Reset hp amd to factory settings

Hello,

The particular error code (1009) is a generic error code for 'interrupted' for system recovery. Meaning, somehow, the recovery process was interrupted. For most HP machines this can be a simple as a few keys being pressed on the keyboard, a power interruption, bad disc, faulty hard drive, or some other form of read error during the process.

Unfortunately, the error code isn't specific enough to give you the best possible troubleshooting information, but I shall try to help as much as I can.

If you can provide the exact HP model number, I can provide a more specific solution for you; but, if you have a Desktop or Notebook computer that uses F11 (on start-up) to enter into system recovery, then you can do the following:

  1. Click Next when Welcome to Recovery Manager displays.
  2. Select No and then click Next when Microsoft System Restore displays.
  3. Select Yes and then click Next when System Recovery displays.
  4. Select the appropriate item (backup file or not) and then click Next when Recover your computer to original factory condition displays.
  5. Allow the system recovery process to complete.
NOTE: The PC will appear to FREEZE for several minutes (it can take quite a while depending on the Operating System you are installing), so do not turn off the power to your machine. If the machine stays frozen for longer than several hours, then chances are the hard drive is having issues, or the recovery image cannot be recovered.

If you have tried the above steps, and you are still failing with Error 1009, it usually points to a failure with the recovery medium (image on a CD, or image on the hard drive), or that the hard drive it is restoring too is having a write/read error. This can be worked around if you have a USB recovery media you can use.

If you have access to another computer, you can create a recovery key on a USB stick to boot your HP computer from, and then kick off the recovery process that way.

Those options, however, shouldn't be taken unless you have tried the above solutions first.

Regards,

Phillip

CANT RESTORE MY COMPUTER

It is asking for the recovery discs that should have been made in the event there was a problem with the recovery sector on drive D or the hard drive failed. The only option is go to www.hp.com contact customer support and the technical department to see if they can sell you the much needed discs.

Sounds like an issue with the Hard Drive. Try replacing the hard drive with a known working one. If that doesn't fix the issue then that means the hard drive controller is bad and the motherboard would need to be replaced.

I have 0xcoooo225 error when loading windows a device is inaccessible have to use disc however i dont have the install disc that came with this computer please help me

You can push F11 key repeatably while starting your machine. This will bring you in to recovery mode.Just follow the prompts and you will wind up with factory default settings. If this won't work you can get a free recovery disk from HP.You will need to change the boot order from :A to CD DVD first devise checked so that it will start off of the setup CD.The order should look like this CD/DVD #1,C:drive #2 .Internet boot # 3.A: # 4.(Floppy drive). When you first start up the boot menu will be displayed so try and tap that key to access the menu. You may have to use your keys to navigate, arrow keys space bar,+ - and enter keys.Just hi light your choice and hit y or n. Take your time and just look around .or just scroll over to boot order hi lite A: press - until it goes to the botteom tap tap tap .CD/DVD drive should now be first.Exit saving changes. Before you shut down insert recovery CD, Then shut down and power back on and when asked if you want to do a quick format choose yes.One of HP's techs may walk you threw this if your going through this the first time. Here's a link for your free recovery CD. I have read that HP will no longer be making PC's in the future. They will be doing software instead.Printers should be OK..http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c00810334&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&product=3807258

Hard disk error no recovery disc

@lizegim

HP laptops have a built-in recovery mode on the system wherein you don't need to use a disc to restore it to factory default. The hotkey for the recovery is the F10 key. After you press the power button, you need to simultaneously press the F10 key to start system recovery. If this one won't work and gave you like an "I/O Error" or "Error 0x000000E" or something similar then that means that the HDD is already defective and needs replacement and you need to order the recovery discs from HP at 1-800-474-6836. If you're still under warranty, they'll replace the HDD and give the Recovery Discs to you for free.

Good luck.

    • If the HP Recovery Manager cannot access the hard drive to fix any system errors, you will need to use the personalized recovery disc that you created to recover the hard drive to its original condition.

If the issue still exists, I request you to perform the full system recovery using the recovery disks. To perform this full system recovery, you can use the recovery disks that you have created using the recovery partition.
Use the recovery discs to restore the PC by following the steps below:
1. Insert the recovery disc in the optical disc drive and start the computer.
If the computer is running, insert the recovery disc and immediately click Start and select Restart to force the computer to start from the recovery disc.
2. When prompted, Press any key to boot from CD or DVD, press any key on the keyboard.
3. Allow the recovery disc to start and load the required files while the Microsoft loading screen is displayed. It may take several minutes to load the required files.
4. When the HP Recovery Manager window displays, click Advanced options , System recovery , and then click Next to open the Recovery Manager.
5. Follow the on-screen instructions and perform the required actions.
NOTE: Do not interrupt the recovery process even though the computer may restart and the Windows desktop may display at various times.
· When prompted, follow the on-screen instructions to Backup the user files.
After performing the backup, when prompted, re-insert the recovery disc, and then click Next to continue the recovery process.
· A status box is displayed to indicate the status of the recovery and the estimated time remaining.
· If you used multiple discs when you created the personalized recovery discs, follow the prompts to remove the first disc and insert any requested discs.
6. When prompted to Insert the Supplemental driver disc , take one of the following actions:
· If you purchased a replacement recovery disc from HP, and it included a Supplemental driver disc, insert the disc and click OK or Next . The recovery program checks the supplemental disc and installs the specific needed files.
After the Supplemental files are installed, a prompt is displayed to remove the Supplemental disc and insert the original recovery disc.
· If you purchased a replacement recovery disc from HP, and it did not include a Supplemental driver disc, click Skip or Cancel . The recovery program will ignore the request and install the next file on the recovery disc.
· If you created a personal recovery disc, press Next to continue.
7. Continue following the on-screen instructions to complete the recovery process.
NOTE: If you have not created a personal recovery disc, or the recovery disc fails or become corrupted, see HP Notebook PCs - Order Recovery Discs for Vista as your notebook is preinstalled with Genuine Windows Vista Home Premium with Service Pack 1.
