Fuse keeps blowing!

Fuel injection fuse keeps blowing when it starts up, replaced the fuel pump, and the wiring was fine. We even bypassed all wiring, and added new wiring to it. Fuel pump is still running, we can hear it, but still does not start. It turns over, but won't start. Now what?

The fuel injection fuse should also power the injectors. If the fuse is blowing, I would think one of the injectors has shorted to ground.
Have you checked them ?

That's the same thing I thought, but I think we did. We ended up finding that the diode was blown, now waiting for the dealership to open Monday, hoepefully that will fix it. Problem is, something is probally causing that to be blown as well. Do you know anything about diodes?

What diode ?? A diode is used to allow voltage to go in one direction such as in an alternator.

SOURCE: no fuel??

bad advice.
on this car , the fuel pump relay above knees ,green socket
energizes for 3 seconds only at key on.
this pressurizes the lines.
then when cranking the pump runs full time.
then when running , it runs full time.

I have a bench test jig for this ECU and that is exactly how it works
and so says the FSM.

this being an 8v engine (you didnt say) there is a test port onthe
the left banjo fitting of the fuel filter , a 6mm bolt. 10mm head.
remove it and put on a fuel pressure tester.
about 30 psi.
you must bleed the pressure off before connecting.

in your case, outdoors no smoking.
lots of fresh air.

heck see my page

SOURCE: no fuel

I come to find out,the fuel command is controlled by the computer, due to corrosion in the internals, it is not telling the fuel pump to turn on,so in turn, I run a switch to the power side of the fuell pump, it works, but the weird thing is, you only need the power on to start the truck, after its running, you can shut the switch off, it stays running, shut it off, you need to turn the power on to make it start pumping again, now who can explain this??

SOURCE: wont start,not fuel problem

hi , i think i have the same problem as you, my engine light flashes and i cant get fuel through the injectors but i have fuel pressure and spark. try these two links which might be helpful, the first explains about the mitsubishi ecu used in your vitara, basicly saying they're **** and break down quite early in its life and the second explains how you can run your own diagnostics test using a paper clip and counting the number of flashes from your engine light, you then compare this to the chart on the web site to find your problem.

mitsubishi ecu site www.carelect.demon.co.uk/mitind.html
self diagnostic test www.btinternet.com/~j_holland/pages/diag.html

hope this helps you out, karl hodder

I have a 99 windstar fuel pump was replaced but it keeps blowing the 15amp fuse under the hood, it wants to start but fuse keeps blowing. any ideas?

If it is blowing the fuel pump fuse, then when replacing the fuel pump one of the wires are pinched. Check the wiring. Even if the fuel pump is bound up or something then it still would not blow the fuse. More than likely the hot wire to the pump is pinched and grounding out.

Upon replacing my fuel pump fuse (15amp)and

Pretty sure you need a new fuel pump, it may be shorting out inside or seizing up drawing too much current blowing your fuse. There easy to change, if you need info on R & R a fuel pump get back to me.
