Got my second Onkyo, returned the first unit because HDMI output didn't work with my Panasonic BD35 blue ray and my Hitachi rear projection. My Hitachi only is capable of 1080i and has DVI input. Onkyo manual say okay with DVI. When runing blue ray player video is out of sync or something. I tried to force output of Panasonic to 720p and set Onkyo to 720p but no success. When I check the Onkyo setting it reverts back to auto or through, same with my blue ray player. I guess HDMI signal senses monitor and adjusts settings but you would think I could fix these settings. Returned first unit thinking there was an issue, second unit performs the same. Check with cable box using HDMI into same input, no problems, so it appears there is some capabilty issue with my blue ray or monitor, not sure. Had Denon AV788 and it worked fine, just didn't like that Denon could not display setting menu in HDMI, you had to hook up the composite video to do this so I bought Onkyo on the great reviews.
I hate to return this a second time, there must be a way to get around the menu to get this correct I hope. HELP.
HDMI switching is an ongoing problem for the 606. A number of people are having the same problem. Mine is at the local repair shop and Onkyo has told them the part is on backorder until April. I would look at another brand or upgrade to a higher leval Onkyo.

Hi Jay Gibson, to be able to send audio from your Panasonic SA-AK110 to the Onkyo TX-SR606, you must use the Panasonic headphone output Connecting a cable with a 3.5 mm stereo mini plug at one end and two RCA at the other
The miniplug to the headphone output, you connect the miniplug and the two RCAs to the Onkio CD input
I suggest you have the volume of the Panasonic at an average level or less, so as not to saturate the Onkio's input
I hope you can hear it
Greetings Franco Dosil
Saludos Franco Dosil
Hello, I am sorry about your issue. Did you make any changes to the output resolution on the Wii. The output must be at 480i for the receiver to up-convert to HDMI. If there is a problem with the receiver I suggest a work around by connecting the component [red, blue, green] video outputs to the TV and the audio connections [red, white] to the receiver. Thank you, Onkyo USA
Measure all hdmi inputs and output HPD Voltage by a needle probe. Steps: (1)unplug the amp. (2)open the cover. (3)connect a blu ray player to hdmi input & a mon to output, otherwise no 5V. (4)negative probe connected to the large heat sink with large power transistors mounted by a crocodile clip. (5)postive probe to right hand side last pin called hot plug detect, HPD. (6)If it has 5V, hdmi board is OK. Check HDMI cables(7)If no 5V, check power to this board. Go to you tube:How to fix an Onkyo receiver - TX-SR606 . All large capacitors next to SMPS IC are replaced. (8) If not OK, replace Q 8595-Q8597. (9)If not OK, replace Q8501,sil9135.(Onkyo won't help you to replace this HDMI decoding Chip. A HDMI board replacement instead, the company policy.)
The problem is with the HDMI daughterboard in the AVR is bad. This is a well documented issue on this interweb! A general search in google can confirm. Here are some stuff cut and pasted frm their site and another forum. Onkyo USA Corporation (hereinafter referred to as Onkyo) hereby warrants all Onkyo products PURCHASED DIRECTLY FROM ONKYO OR AN ONKYO AUTHORIZED DEALER- WARRANTY PERIOD (from date of purchase) New Products: Receivers 2 years Parts & Labor-- You can go to the Onkyo webpage to find a n authorized service repairman. *** I took mine to a service repair place today, the guy said that he had two that he just fixes yesterday. He said that this issue has given him a ton of work. Just make sure that you have your receipt from AN UNAUTHORIZED DEALER and that your still under warranty. Receivers 2 years Parts & Labor
The problem is the hdmi board in the receiver .they are having trouble with the smd regulator and smd capactors that they are using on the board, they have updated the new boards as i have not got any back when replacing with the new boards. I have replaced at least 35 hdmi boards on this model. If you call Onkyo they will tell you that you have a hdmi board bad and take it to an onkyo dealer.
Assigning the Digital Input
If there’s no sound, you’ll need to assign the digital inputs as
necessary using the setup menus on the TX-SR606’s display.
If you connect your DVD player to the AV receiver’s COAXIAL 1
DIGITAL IN, and your cable/satellite receiver to the COAXIAL 2
DIGITAL IN, as shown, it’s not necessary to assign the digital input.
The onscreen setup menus appear only on a TV that is
connected to the HDMI OUT. If your TV is connected to the composite video or S-Video MONITOR OUT, or the
COMPONENT VIDEO OUT, use the TX-SR606’s display when changing settings.
You might want to try re-setting the receiver. This will delete all of your settings... but helped me when I had a very similar issue w/ DMP BD35 and my onkyo sr606. After turning on the receiver, hold the VCR/DVR button and the on/standby buttons down simultaneously, until the display says "Clear". Now you will just have to set up all of the settings again
Not sure if this is your fix, but I had what I thought was the same problem. I played with my Onkyo quite a bit ensuring the correct assignments for HDMI, audio and all that stuff. Turns out I neglected to make sure the output devices were properly assigned. Many devices aren't default to output sound over HDMI. I changed the audio out settings on the cable box to HDMI and suddenly the Onkyo worked great. I know, I'm an idiot for not checking that in the first place, but maybe someone out there is having the same trouble as well.
try using a HDMI cable connecting the receiver from the "out" to the tv, then allocate through the setup menu what you have connected, say a cable box by hdmi, you would go to cable/sat allocate the port "hdmi1 or coax 1" then return. If it is a dvd click on dvd then allocate eg: "hdmi 2" then return.
