I would run compatibility check. It sounds like not compatible with Vista.

SOURCE: I own a Lanier

1. Your device possibly has a broken voice connection from the dictation microphone or the record heads need cleaning.
It sounds like there is an intermittent connection between the dictation microphone and the recording heads.
2. Your unit will need to be serviced by a tech. This may require dis-assembly and and rewiring of the microphone. This is an intrusive procedure.

When i put a tape in to transcribe it sounds garbled. Do you think it could use a cleaning?

1. Try to change the tape speed on your machine. Sometimes that will fix it.

2. Maybe the tape is just old (has been dictated on too many times) and in that case, have the person dictate on new tapes and discard the old ones. They dont last forever.

Hope I could help!

We have 6 month old Philips LFH9380s where the quality of recording has deteriorated - words are merging together and becoming unintelligble.

Hello if you are using your unit for dictate you probably need to change the mini tape but if you are using your unit for transcribe just clean the head with Alcohol you can purchase mini tapes for your unit at http://www.tvps.com/Departments/Dictation-Accessories/Cassette-Tapes/Mini.aspx

Dictaphone use for Medical Transcription

You'll need a digital recorder (Dictaphone makes one - a Walkabout Model 5220). Transferring a recording from an analog (tape) machine to a PC requires a patch cord to hook it up to your PC, then some sort of software to record it while it's playing back.
