SOURCE: restore factory settings

what i would do is go into dos. If you cant get into dos find a windows 98 setup disk 3.5" this will have the dos files that will allow the computer to reconize a generic cd rom. This should allow you to get your recovery disk working. Your software problem could of created a firmware problem also. Not reconizing the cd rom. This solution will provide the basics to get your cd rom loading the recovery disk for you. If you have questions or more problems feel free to contact me and i will take you through it step by step

I want to take my acer aspire back to the factory setting but dont have a cd how do i do it

Acer are cheap and they don't provide you with a factory restore disk. You need to make this factory disk yourself. I know how to do this, but it is to much for me to type and here is a really really good reference site for you to visit to get instruction to make your own factory restore disk. After making that restore disc,  pop the disk into your laptop and turn of your laptop and restart and the factory restore program should start, if it should not start then go into your bios menu and have it boot from your Dvd-Rom and save, after full restoration, make sure you turn your boot priority back to where your Os is being installed, exm hard drive.

How do you restore an acer 5738 to its factory settings

Unlike other laptops, Acer laptops integrate a computer management utility called 'Acer eRecovery Management' to create backup of hard drive data, create restore point, reinstall applications & drivers, and reset Acer laptop to factory setting.

Step 1: Before starting your Acer laptop, ensure that there is no external storage device attached to it. Now start your laptop.

Step 2: Press 'Alt + F10' when the laptop starts booting, and wait for a moment while Windows loads the reset files.

Step 3: When 'Acer eRecovery Management' window appears, select 'Restore System from factory default' and click 'Next' to continue.

Step 4: Again click 'Next' to reset your Acer laptop. This process will erase all data from your hard disk and reset your Acer laptop to original factory settings.

Step 5: Click 'OK' in the notification window to begin the the resetting operation. Now wait while your Acer laptop is reset to factory settings.

Tips: You can also create a backup copy of your laptop data before factory reset. Simply click 'Backup' in 'Acer eRecovery Management' window.

How do i put my acer computer in factory condition

From Aspire.pdf

Insert the startup disk you created during Windows setup into the floppy drive and
press Ctrl + Alt + Del to restart your computer. This will automatically diagnose your system and make necessary fixes. However, if the diagnostic utility still reports a problem, then you may have to perform the recovery process to restore your system to its original default factory settings.

Note: For more information about recovering your system, refers to the RCD instruction sheet.

In other words you need your startup disk.

Restore to factory default

Most Acer M1640's can be restored to factory settings using the following method:

1. Start with the computer off.
2. Power on the unit, this should cause the Acer POST screen to appear.
3. During the Acer POST screen, press and hold the Alt key on your keyboard, and tap the F10 key on your keyboard.
4.If timed correctly, this should cause the unit to go to a black screen that says "Windows is loading files...".
5. After the "Windows is loading files" screen you should be in Acer e-recovery management. At this point follow the on-screen instructions to restore the unit to factory defaults.
