Disappearing Icons in notification area of taskbar - VistaHmPrem.

At different times the network, sound, or power icons stop appearing in the taskbar. When I go to properties of the taskbar, the missing icons are greyed out so they cannot be turned on. The next time or several startups later, the icons either show up or are available in the Properties dialog box to be turned. Why is this happening and how can I stop it.

Right click on your taskbar then choose properties. On the bottom of the box opened, there is a check box with label "Hide Inactive Icons". Uncheck the box.

A tool bar keeps popping up at dottom on the screen. It runs across each box with last being a ? mark then goes away. How do I stop this?

. .This all i could find on the internet, not sure if it will help.
this was related to the notification area (f.k.a. System Tray). Specifically, the "Action Center" notifications were causing the taskbar to pop-up every few seconds. I went into the Taskbar properties, and selected 'Customize' within the Notification area. I chose the 'Hide icon and notification' option for the Action Center icon. I'm sure that some of the other icons could cause this issue, as well. You just need to use trial and error to figure out which one is causing the problem. OR, I suppose you could choose to hide all of the icons if you don't care to see any of them in the system tray/notification area.
Steps:
1. Right click the taskbar
2. Select Properties
3. Click the 'Customize' button in the section labeled 'Notification area'
4. Find the suspect program (Action Center, in my case)
5. Click the drop-down next to the icon of the offending program
6. Select the "Hide icon and notifications" option
7. Click 'OK' to close the Notification Customization screen
8. Click 'OK' to close the Taskbar properties menu..

The volume bar keeps appearing on the middle screen on my laptop hp dv7

My suggestion is to set the 'Start Menu' and 'Notification area' to default settings.

1) Right-click the Start icon and select Properties.
Click Taskbar tab > click 'Customize...' in Motification area' section.
Uncheck 'Always show all icons and notifications on the taskbar' (it looks like you have this on)
Click 'Restore default icon behaviors'
test to see if taht fixes the issue.

If all is OK, Re-check the 'Always show all icons and notifications on the taskbar' if you like and test again.

I hope this helps.

My icon for the battery power monitor has dissapeared from my taskbar can you help me get it back please

Do you have Windows 7? If so, you can right-click on the bottom right corner of your desktop (try right-clicking the time/date), where the icons for volume control, wireless, battery, etc... should be and select Properties. You should then see a screen where you can turn on/off the icons/notifications for battery power (sometimes my volume control disappears and i have to do this.
Otherwise you can go here, Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Notification Area Icons and you should find the same thing. Then just turn on your battery power icon/notifications.
Hope this helps.

Volume Control - The volume icon does not appear in the notification area (system tray)
Go to Start/Control Panel/Sounds and Audio Devices.

Place your XP CD in then go to Start/Run and type in:

Once done: Go to Start/Run and type in: regsvr32 stobject.dll

Volume Icon has disappeared.

First, right click on the taskbar and select Properties from the right click menu.

Alternatively, you can go to the Control Panel and type the word 'taskbar' in the search box from the upper-right side. Once the search results are loaded, click on the link that says 'Customize icons on the taskbar'.

The Taskbar and Start Menu Properties window will show up on your screen. Here, go to the tab called Notification Area. In the System icons section check the Volume box and click on OK.

The Volume Mixer icon will now show up in the notification area of your taskbar

I hope that this information was helpful and thank you for contacting the experts.
