I have an epson tm-t88iv and i cannot get it to stop displaying the "user intervention required" status to go away. I have tried everything from uninstalling, upgrading, using different drivers.... The funny thing is, i am installing this printer on 2 workstations that are exactly the same and it works great on the one, but on the other i get the "user intervention required" message. Any help is appreciated

I spent a good week trying to find an answer to this problem... and finally I HAVE THE SOLUTION!!

it's to do with the Port settings.

go to BIOS and change the port settings on your computer.

there are a number of different options that can be selected, just try them one by one, the one that worked for me was "Normal" try that one first, but it may be differnet depending on the printer.

if your LPT port is using it's own driver (not using BIOS to run) you cant change the settings using the BIOS. see if you can change it useing the settings for the dirver. if not try updating the driver. if that doesn't work, and nothing else works, reinstall Windows, that should fix the problem as a last resort.

good luck.

I don't see any BIOS port settings where 'Normal' is an option, can anyone be more specific?

I had the same problem with the user intervention required status on the printer(tm-t88iv). I tries reinstalling it several times through the Epson Driver Utility but got the same message each time. I got it to work after making two change but do not know which one (if either) got it to work. First i uninstalled the printer driver through Add/Remove Programs and not through the Driver Utility. I also set Dip switch 1-1 to on which enables auto line feed with parallel interface, with other interfaces this switch changes other things.

did you already change your COM port number?for ex.maybe your COM1 is in use by other device so changing your COM1 into COM2 will resolve your problem,as i did with mine...u can change your COM port @device manager>Communication port>left click>properties>then u can see COM port number below the box, change into another COM that is not in use...restart...it worked with mine hope it resolve your problem too...

I got the real solution for this, and you will love it, is the only way...
The first thing is download the latest drivers from www.epson-pos.com, select the dot matrix printer, the common error with this, is when you use the COM1 port, cause Epson creates his own COM1 port that never get communicate with COM1 of the computer.
The second step, is install a Generic Text Printer, using the COM1 port, or LPT1 or whatever, now share this printer, and put the name that you want, then install the epson driver, and you will get the hate message from the spool saying User Intervention Required.
The third step, then right click in epson printer, ports and create a new port, select local port, the local port is used to connect one printer in another computer using network, so, you must use this two back slash to represent the access to the network "\\" then the name of the same computer, then another back slash with the name of the printer with generic text driver..
so for example ...
Local port:
\\computer1\epson-pos

at this moment you are indicating that you are gonna use the printer epson, but with the port of Generic Text.... and voilaaaaa... the printer prints..
Wait for comments...
