When all of the draws are in position and pushed in as far as they will go, the freezer door will not close properly. However, if only the bottom draw is in position the door will close. This problem appears to have devoloped recently and was not present when the unit was new.
It appears that the left hand side of the internal back panel of the freezer compartment has moved forward slightly and this is preventing the draws from being pushed in far enough to allow the door to close.
There does not appear to be any movement on the back panel and it seems to be firmly in position.
The rear panel can be removed,i have done it.I removed the 4 hex head screws from the top & bottom of the panel, and firmly pulled it forward. The reason i say pulled firmly is that when panel came out the back of the freezer was solid with ice.I have defrosted the freezer, dried any water from the unit and replaced the panel.Fingers crossed,so far,so good.In my case this build up of ice was definately the reason the drawers were not sitting in the correct position,as it caused the rear panel to 'bulge' out.Hope this helps.....
The same thing happened to my Hotpoint FFA70.
A huge block of
ice has built up behind the back panel. This has made the back panel
expand, thus making the drawers jut out too far. Like me, you may not
think ice build up is the cause, since you cannot see any ice.
Action:
Defrost freezer. Yes, I know its frost free, but wait an see! Take out
al drawers, empty fridge and freezer and defrost overnight with doors
open. The next morning, unscrew the back panel of the freezer. You will
see 4 screws, 2 at the top, 2 at the bottom. These are not normal
screws and are in an awkward postion at the top. Use pliers to grip and
unscrew. Slide the panel forward and out. There! A massive block of
ice! YOu will also see a hole at the bottom. SO that this didn't get
blocked with all the water, I plugged the hole up using a ball of
tissue wrapped in some plastic from a plastic bag (clingfilm would also
do the trick). Use a hairdryer to melt the ice. Do not chip away at the
ice as this might do damage. It took mine about 20 minutes to melt
until a large block could be safely removed. Once you have dried the
inside, unblock hole and screw panel back on. The drawers should now
fit and the door close. I found I still needed to give my door a little
help with closing it, but it did close and seal fully. All you have to
do now is turn the fridgefreezer back on.
Hope this helps :)
I have posted this same problem on Jan.10th.We tried to remove the back to see if there was any obstruction but was unable to do so.Have rung the hotpoint help desk, they say they are unaware of this problem,& would only send an engineer out at a cost of £100 plus the charge if it could be repaired. We have now removed the ridge from the back of the drawers, which enables the drawers to fit properly & therefore the door now closes.Unfortunatly for some reason the 2nd drawer down will not fit evan with the ridge sawn of.Not a brilliant solution, but we are now able to use the freezer.
