Bought a number 35 colour cartridge for my Lexmark X4550, this aligns correctly, printing in black and blue, I have run the cleaning program 4 times to get the ink flowing, but........ when trying to print photo's I receive the error "The document failed to print, the ink in the black cartridge is not compatible with photo paper" which is odd as the black cartridge hasn't been replaced and is in fact a Lexmark number 23!!! Also when testing with a word document with a few key words printed in various colours, but the whole document has printed out in black and white only. Help!!!!!!!

try to perform maintenance of your printer
on the setting
and open your printer clean up the nozzle
use alcohol and cotton buds and then placed it back properly!!

yes you have to have both of them then everything should be fine.if you have the color cartridge that is empty put it in for now and see if it will work it will let u know that it is empty but at least you will be able to print in black

take the cartridges out and clean them also clean where they go with a lint free cloth then replace them.

It could be that the cartridge has become dry.
you have to try several head cleans using the printer software and if that doesnt help then the cartridge needs to be replaced.

I would try to do a printhead cleaning cycle first.
Then print an alignment page.
This will result in a good clear alignment page.
