"prot" error message on Alesis ADAT 16 bit recorder

It sounds like your buttons are stuck...I would take it back for an exchange...good luck

If memory serves correct you have rca and outs, 8 each. Using rca to 1/4" cords work the best. Connect each of your cords from the "in" on the alesis to the channel access 1 through 8 I believe to the first click. Run the "outs" from your alesis to channels 9 through 16. Use 9 through 16 as playback and 1 through 8 for instruments. This is one good way of doing it with our limited gear. Good luck!

There must be some error message when you try to write a CD. What happens when you press the 'create CD' button?

Regarding the other issue, you must have a valid digital input connected for the Alesis to lock on to. PCM digital at one of the sample rates specified on the front panel. If you try to feed it a non-PCM digital signal, such as Dolby Stereo, some other Home Theatre format, or other, it will not accept it. Must be 16-bit or 24-bit, 44.1 to 96kHz as per front panel.

Early Alesis products like the SR16 use a 9 volt AC adaptor, not a DC one.

Are you talking about recording the beats from the Alesis or are you talking about designing beats on your computer to load into the Alesis? Some harddisk recording/PC based recording programs recognize "Midi Bulk Dump"

I use Alesis Data Disc for all midi backup from synths and drum machine. This is a one unit rack module you can get for som few dollars.. ;)

Alternative check out download.com with "midi" as search word.

try to reinstall the O.S. /firmware.

My adat lx20 keeps showing a error 2 and spits the tape back out, i chek the tape in my other adats and its fine. any suggestions?
