Intermittent picture, blue line

Sometimes I get a picture for about a minute, then it starts to fade into a kind of ghost image with a blue line on left side of screen and goes blank. If I move the tv or jiggle it a little sometimes the picture will come back but only for a few minutes. A few times it will display a perfect picture without the blue line but that will only last minutes. I dont think it is the y,z or control board because I can get a pic. Sounds like maybe a loose solder? but where and on what board.

I will try this, but I forgot to add that if I push on the control board the picture is perfect, no blue line either. This board is the CTRL_LVDS Part 6870QCHOO3A, Just a thought before I try to replace the power board. Any suggestions? Very hard board to find.

Wow! you know your s#$>t. I cleaned the grease and lint but could not find the bad solder, maybe I need a better mag-glass. Anyway do you think replacing the board will do the trick, because that is my plan thus far.

I have a Vizio P42HD but once it is taken apart, it is all LG components.

It is your Power Control Board 6871qch038a. The solders are so small it isn't worth trying to re-solder.

Spoke with PartStore.com, rep stated 6871QCH038C (038C) is the superceded replacement for the defective prone OEM 6871QCH038A (038A). They and others offer the 6781QCH060Q (060Q) for $50 - $100 more. I opted for the 038C, but I was concerned about the title of the part which states "HAND INSERT"... PartStore.com rep stated it is in fact a board and there is no soldering needed, just "plug and play". DONE, paid only $120.95 + next day shipping for $29.95.

Since I took the TV apart before, it was a breeze and took about 2 hours, start to finish.

Important note, remember to remove the two 1" square spunge type heat sinks/pads the new board needs those for a proper installation and protection of the certain component.

Also you need two small zip ties to replace the ones you are going to clip off.

Added Bonus, the new board fixed other issues:

1. At times I would get a squeegly red line go across the screen. I thought it was the source (cable) but it is gone now.

2. Screen Shift, when I use the XBox for Games or DVD/HDVD the screen would shift. Very annoying, prior to swap out, recently the screen started to shift watching cable. Now it is no-longer an issue.

I am really pleased with my DIY repair and wanted to share.

The damn Vizio Out of Warranty Service wanted $360 for a service call which included the part for $125 plus they take my bad board for exchange.

Oh sorry about that, I assumed yours was a similar model that used the 038a.

My understanding is it is those small capacitors maybe 1MM X 0.5MM in size there are 14 on each side just above the two tape connectors. You will need a magnifying glasses to see them clearly and low wattage solder at 3-5 seconds to re-solder them.

You may also notice bunch of di-electric grease all over the place on the board, Some may have leaked onto the tapes so I would clean them up with rubbing alcohol. Then brush the lint off.

    Break a Leg,

    Jim
