My built-in KitchenAid microwave/convection oven/oven fan comes on and goes off spontaneously. I have to turn it off at the breaker. Otherwisel, both micro/convection and the lower oven are functioning beautifully. Any ideas?

I'd say it's the internal cooling fan. The green "on" light is also illuminated when the fan comes on, but the interior light is off and the turntable does not turn during this "phantom" operation. The model# is KEMS376TBL3, serial# XA0202483. It went about 24 hours operating just fine, then spontaneously came on again this afternoon so I had to throw the breaker to turn it off. Any ideas?

    Thanks so much.

Guess what, I think I have the same model oven and microwave. It's a #KEMS376. And we have been having this problem for  many years now and haven't looked into getting this fixed.

We end up flipping the breaker switch on and off each time we want to use it or the "fan" will turn on mysteriously, it has gotten worse over the years where it would turn on almost immediately after each microwave use.

    Any easy fix?

    > The green "on" light is also illuminated when the fan comes on

This seems like a good clue, but which light? Where is it?

The manuals for your oven and for the microwave can be downloaded here if you don't have them.

Sorry for the back and forth, but I'm pretty sure I can figure this out for you with just a little more info.

Can you look at the manual and let me know which light that is and where it is, or upload a good digital photo?

Do you know which fan it is coming on by itself?

    This should have three fans:

    1. an internal cooling fan that comes on automatically when you microwave

    2. A hood vent exhaust fan that you can turn on and off

    3. the convection fan that is only used when cooking in convection mode

Also, please let us know your model model so we can help you best.

Oven has quit seems to have no power, checked breaker ok. nothing works not even the fan or light

your problem is more then likely the fuse, but the fuse holder is most likely bad as well

Built-in Sharp Carousel II Microwave Convection Oven died.

There are a couple of safety thermostats in the oven to shut down power if something overheats. One is on the magnetron tube (the microwave source), the other is on the cooking cavity. These sometimes go bad. There's also a power line fuse that may have failed, or become loose in its mounting clips. These can be tested with an ohmmeter; they should all measure very close to zero ohms if they're good.

Another possibility is that the control circuit board in the oven may have failed. I have worked on several Sharp ovens where the power transformer for the board has gone bad for no good reason. If the board goes bad the oven may appear to be dead as well.

Microwave servicing is best left to professionals. If you're thinking of keeping this one, take it to a service shop (or call for home service) and get an estimate. Then decide whether to repair or replace.

Hope this has helped a little. Thanks for using Fixya!

Your membrane keypad is shorting.

It comes as an assembly, so it's pretty easy to replace yourself. It is part number 4453420 and you can get it here for $235.33 plus shipping.

You can also find helpful exploded views at that link.

Which fan is it?

The

Or the hood vent exhaust fan which you can turn on and off manually?

Or the convection fan, if it is a convection model?

When is it coming on?

Is it coming on whenever you cook on the stove top?

Microwave will turn on by itself and display PAN on screen.

Does everything come on by itself or is it just a fan that comes on? If so, is it a convection oven?

Spontaneous fan on/off

Q - The fan in my microwave oven is not running will this hurt my microwave?
A - YES, the fan cools the magnetron and electronics, take the microwave in for service, most fans are not too expensive to replace.
Many thing can do this but, common things are....loose high voltage wire.....poor solder joint on board.....magnetron.....power relay.....

Microwave/Convection Oven has mind of its own: turns to Crisp mode on its own.

Yes this is a touchpad issue. As you have noted the crisp button is stuck and this is the cause of this. You can try removing the keypad and push up the pressed button. If its jammed then replacing it is the only way.
