SOURCE: I am trying to change the needle on a janome

on my overlocker, its the screw in the front; it obviously works by pushing onto the needle head. Perhaps you've loosened it too much ?

I would call Janome at 1-800-631-0183 and order directly from them so that you get the correct needle screw.

SOURCE: Elna 683 overlocker spare parts

I can see a needle plate
http://www.sewingpartsonline.com/needle-plate-janome-788601007.aspx

from sewingpartsonline.com, but it is marked as being for Elna 664. They don't have your model listed on their website.

You could email them and ask if its compatible with your model or just look at the part and see if it looks the same to you?

Other option is to contact Elna head Office in your country and ask them for price and availability; often this is best course of action as any sewing machine dealer will probably need to order in the part anyway.
Visit www.elna.com, then go to your country, then "Contact Us" page to find their contact details.

Hope this helps you get the overlocker going again.

The basic concern is whether the plug for the control unit fits the plug on your machine. Even generic or other model control units may work on your machine if the plugs are compatible. A sewing machine repair shop may be able to help you. Bring the old control unit with you so they can compare.

I have bought new needles for my Riccar overlocker now the stitching is loopy and messy

Verify you are using the correct needles for your machine. Some needles vary by a fraction of an inch but will make a big difference in serging success.

Remove all the threads from the machine.
(Always cut the threads below the spools, raise the presser foot, and pull the threads DOWN through the needles--Never pull up!)
ALWAYS RAISE the presser foot when threading.
Be sure to always thread each thread in the proper order--threading out of order will usually fail.
Rethread from the beginning and give each thread an extra little tug when threading the tension disk.

If a thread breaks, it is usually less frustrating in the end to remove all the threads and rethread from the beginning. Trying to rethread a broken thread will most likely cause problems.

Replacing needle on Singer overlocker.

The manual should have instructions. Most overlocker needles have a screw that holds each needle in place. Just loosen the screw with the screwdriver that came with your machine, slide the old needle out (note which direction the flat side of the needle is facing), insert the new needle as far up as it will go, and tighten the screw. Don't lose those screws or drop them inside the machine. If you remove a needle so you can serge without it, be sure to tighten that screw so it doesn't fall out.

I have just snapped the needle on my Husqvana overlocker 905 how do I change the needles

The serger came with a tool just for that purpose. It may be a small screwdriver or it might be a hex or Allen wrench. Locate the screw that holds it in, insert the proper tool and turn counter clock wise until the needle will slide down, remove and replace with new needle, then tighten, clockewise the screw. You are done

How do I change a needle on my husqvana 905 overlocker

Each needle has a small set screw holding it in place. Just above the needle from the front you can loosen the needle by using a T6 (Tork 6) screw driver (if you don't have the original tool that came with the serger) to loosen the needle. Before loosing the screw, I would put a piece of fabric or paper over the needle plate to catch the needle (or part) to keep it from falling in the machine. Turn the screw counter clockwise (to the left) to loosen. Insert the new needle and tighten. It's not necessary to remove the screw entirely, just loosen it and the needle usually just falls out.

Good luck.

Hook Drive Gear, Riccar #53741 how to take part off of sewing machine

Hi there,

Today I got such a machine (Riccar) for free from a lady I know. the only problem was that the needle walked against the bobbin (timing problem).

I screwed the sewingmachine open and after some screwing I saw that the part, Hook Drive Gear, Riccar #53741, was broken. Wat I did is I enscrewed two screws wich hold the part on the axe and with a bigger flat screwdriver I could just push the part from the axe, from the other gear. It looks more difficault then it is.

Now I have to get a new part, put it back and time the the machine so that the needle will go normal, at the right time, in the bobbin. Does anybody know the trick to do that?

regards,
Daan

How do I remove the needle from my Brother Overlocker

HOLD needle before you turn needle clamp screw towards you to loosen. I emphasize holding needles a's you remove them because many sewists have accidentally DROPPED needles down into their machines! TURN OFF POWER & UNPLUG! You will have two needles (standard #11 and a #14 but check your manual, please!). Although the needles will be same length, the left one will APPEAR higher when you insert into the needle bar. The flat shank goes to the BACK, more "rounded" side of needle/s facing you. Jimmy
